I just got a wire kit to turn all three headlights at the same time. It also came with instructions on how to by pass the yellow override button while in reverse. Has anyone done this? If so does it cause any problems?

From what I understand it is the guys that have snowplows that the REV LIMTER bothers. The limiter is a safety device and for me I don't look at unhooking it as an option. I don't use it often and am in reverse very small percentage of the time.

You unhook and you know that it isn't there, all is good, someone else rides your machine has no idea that it isn't there, it is an accident looking for a place to happen. Several years ago we had a guy with some friends that wanted to ride. He borrowed a POLARIS the guy was riding double with his wife. Went to backup had limiter pressed hit a small ditch scared him he hit the throttle. To make long story short she spent about two months in the hospital. Your choice but for me mine stays connected.

If you plow and wanted it dissabled temporary just add a rubber band around the button and take off when done.

I guess I was looking at it because I do plow and I mud a lot. My winch button is on that side so sometimes it gets complicated pushing two buttons steering and hitting the throttle. No one barrows my machine except a select few and they all no the mods cause they help me do them usually.

Do you think it would mess up the computer? Or whatever runs the speedo?

Another thing I haven't gotten around to (like hardwire the GPS, install the heated grips, do the last scheduled maintenance, etc.) is wiring in a bypass switch. I understand the concept for the rev limiter and no 4wd but find that for my uses - mostly trail maintenance and some rescue/recovery - having the engine suddenly cut out has several times nearly sent me flying. Not having 4wd while trying to turn and back in rough/slick terrain makes getting out of a tight spot more difficult and forget about trying to back a trailer. All in all it reminds me of a quote from one of my engineering profs so many years ago: "If you make something idiot proof - you just end up with more idiots". I am sure that for some it may a good thing to have (but I bet EVERYONE on here would have learned to be safe without it) but then I am on record as saying that one of the best things about retiring from the fire service was that I no longer had to interfere with natural selection.

Just a reminder that you can go as fast in reverse as forward with button pressed. Shrug

Hee hee. I had a professor who used to say that.

That is what the directions call for is putting a toggle switch in that way you are only overriding it when you need it

I've had mine by-passed for awhile now, no way I would put it back. I do plow a lot, but when I want to backup, I want to backup, not spit, sputter and do the herky jerky. Plus, I like using the button as a horn button.

Last time I had it at the dealer, they liked being able to back it up with no button pushed. Cob has a valid point, and if there is concern or if inexperienced people will be on your quad, don't do it, the toggle switch is a good idea, but I bet you never use it. One of the best mods I've done.

Several years ago I bought a kit from Snowride of ATVFrontier. Basically, a mechanical switch attached to the shift linkage that activates the bypass only in reverse. This doesn't affect the function of the button at all when not in reverse. Worked great until the switch wore out & I couldn't find another. I then redesigned it using a magnetic switch - one from a home security system. Now there are no mechanical parts to wear out. The original instructions suggested putting a toggle inline with the wire if you wanted to be able to deactivate the bypass. I didn't do it, but it is a quick fix if you have others riding your quad & are genuinely concerned about safety.

Quite true, as long as your finger doesn't slip off said button while you turn the bars and body (to make sure you don't run over anything unintended while backing).

I use a zip tie tighten it just enough that when you press in the button you can slide it over the button and voila instant bypass and can be slid back up and out of the way

It's geared a bit lower in reverse, so 50 isn't that acheivable. Scary none the less. Mountain Performance disabled mine with the re-program, so I'll have to get used to it. I notice the reverse retard isn't quite as slow with the timing key.
