well ihave been out of the loop for the better part of the summer. as the army has been very demanding of my time.

but now on to the troulbe...

i have a clicking noise coming from the back of the buggy. when the clicking noise is happening while in gear moving it also seems to have a lurching or hoping feeling like when you loose a tooth on a differential. remember that i have a 06 ridge runner buggy made with the drive train of a 06 sp800efi. i have the Motor, trans minus the front output shaft, and the rear diff.

weh i went down to the local popo shop the parts guy told me that the oils were the same in all three holes. motor, trans, and rear diff. so i bought it and headed home to do the oil change. wel after getting home and talking with my buddy that came over to assist and help load forht edune trip we were headedon the next morning. we decided thta i shouldnt put the same oil in all three. that for sure the rear diff needed some kind of gear oil. so i ran to the local auto parts store that was still open and bought some syhthetic gear oil for hte rear diff.

so now fast forward toeht next day we get to the dunes. i take teh buggy out and about 20 minutes into driving the buggy out on the sand trying outhe new paddle tires i bought, slick hop click hop click hop it started. i immediately headed back to the truck. since it was dark out we waited till morning so look at it. i thought i had lost a CV. but apparently not. everything i have seen says that typically if a cv is bad a easy way to tell is raise or compress the wheel so that the axle is apinning flat not at a angle and the clicking should go away. well mine didnt.

last night i put it up on blocks inthe garage and took teh rear shocks off. the wheels spin freely with no clicking on either driver or passenger side. through out the hole range of travel. that is with it in nuetral. when i put the buggy in gear while running on the blocks you can push the throttle nad feel and hear a clicking/poping soiund coming from the trans. if you put you r hand on the trans you can feel it too.

so at this point it appears ihave to pull the trans to tear down and inspect.

any suggestions....

Before you go to all that trouble pull your belt cover and check it. I just went thru the same thing and when I had it in neutral with the engine running it was still doing it. I broke the belt jumping it on the dunes. After 3 or 4 hundred jumps landing off the throttle with the EBS stopping the rear wheels while in the air then landing, well lets say it will only take so much before it breaks. riding this thing like a sport bike is taking its toll.

first off, get rid of the gear oil, if it is using the polaris gear cases, then you messed up if you put regular gear case oil in it, especially the thick junk, the polaris takes a pretty thin oil, almost like tranny oil

Rear diff case does take gear oil. Transmission takes the thinner purple oil.

not auto gear oil, it is way too thick, the polaris rear case takes Polaris ATV Angle Drive Fluid and only 5 ounces in it

I didn't say it takes tranny fluid, I said it is thinner like tranny fluid, but not as thin

My 600 had 80-90W gear oil in it it was green and had an awful garlic like smell. I put in synthetic gear oil in it that was green and smelled the same.

That's what the manual said the oil should be in it, but mine was an 04.

It has been running it for years now and no problems.

well i'd like to see the manual, but i didn't own an o4, i owned an 05 700 and 06 800, both take atv angle drive fluid, i've heard of others running some amsoil product

it may run with thicker oil, but it only takes 5 ounces and heard horror stories of people running more

Hey Dave, I'm sure things have changed since I had my 04.5, but it sounds like you are describing the front diff requirements. Shrug

Anyone got a manual?

i think you were looking into your crystal ball. i opened my clutch cover today and this is what i found....

i have never had a belt act or sound like this.. i have blown close to 20 belts but never had one do this. Normally checking th ebelt is the first thing that i would have checked. but for some reason it never occured to me to look at it. the only reason i finally looked at it was that i was pulling the cover off to take the clutches off to start taking hte tranny out of the buggy. i feel like a complete retard now. it has been sitting in my garage for months. i pulled the spare belt out and put it on and so far on the blocks it sounds fixed i will take the paddles of and go test drive it but i think it is fixed. man i am retarded.
