Down to crunch time on whether to buy an extended warranty. I have an 08 500EFI. For more reasons than I'd like to get into I didn't get much time on it so far.
I'd like your opinions one way or the other on buying the extended warranty.

I always figure if your going to have a warranty issue it will be in the first 500 miles. I put on way over that before the warranty was up so I didn't get extended warranty. But then I had a friend that had his wire harness warrantied two days after the warranty ran out. the dealer was nice and back dated the warranty it could have gone the other way. I never get extended warranty on anything. Knock on wood it has never bite me.

I bought mine with about 1 week of warranty left.
Everything seemed ok. At around 500 miles I noticed my front diff was leaking ADC fluid, a motor mount broke and the T-Bap wiring pulled apart. Polaris didn't cover anything but Hilliard did replace my front diff. The other 2 were small $$ but the diff was over $800.
I wouldn't pay a lot for the extended warranty but for a couple hundred I would!

i bought the warranty for my 06 450 and blew my front diff shortly after. 150 bucks for warranty, and it saved me 1200 in parts and labor

And how much did the warranty cost? I hang onto my cash. You're gambling with an insurance company that you will have major problems outside of the warranty period. You'd probably be better off taking the same amount of money you'd pay for the extended warranty and invest it. Insurance companies would sell it if they didn't make money on them.

I have found that the extended warranties are a rip off... Even with Cajun's Stealth.. I lost about $200 on the sale............

Three things to consider How good is the dealer, how much will you use the ATV,and what kind of problems has this ATV had.

Bought the quad 100 miles away from home. Haven't had any contact with them except the usual follow up sale contact. I won't be using it to plow or anything like that. Trails, mud and puttin. Because of outside problems I only was able to put 26 hrs on it so far with no problems.

Got my 06 at the end of the year. Got over 2000 miles on it. Had the front springs sag, had the belt cover leak, had a short under the pod and had to put new tires on it. So far I think that cost me round $300.00. I can't think of anything else that went wrong.

if warranties benifitted you (the consumer) how could the manufactures sell it? lets just say the warranty cost the dealer 300 bucks for 24 months. the dealer sells it for 600 bucks. then most of the time when you try to use it they deny the claim due to abuse, neglect, or improper use of the machine.....

got dirt!!! just add water 2001 sportsman 500HO. 26 " bearclaws front rear bumper winch also new addition 2006 honda rubicon wheres the mud??

That seems to be the clincher. The cost is OK. Its being at the mercy of the dealer for claims that bothers me. I don't know anyone that has ever tried to use a warranty with any of them. I'm leaning towards not buying it.

I did get an extended warranty thrown in with mine on a factory promotion thru November of this year. And they did take care of the leaking crankshaft seal behind the clutch with no problems. (standard $50 deductable).

If it wouldn't have been a promotion, I don't purchase extended warranties, I figure they are weighted for their advantage. The other thing I always tell people pushing extended warranties is, IF IT'S GOING TO NEED THAT MUCH WARRANTY WORK, I DON'T WANT IT!! That usually ends the sale pitch. Thumbup

Called the guy I bought the quad from $540 3yr.
2 yr $442
Called a local (35 miles away) $750 3 yr. Said 2 yr was only $50 less. I dropped the phone, he then came back with $650 3yr.

Extended warranties have very high commissions, so that's why the dealers push it so hard. The insurance companies aren't stupid.

We Love Warrantie work, my techs try to get as much as possiable covered under warranty, it pays better. But sometimes Polaris just won't cover some items. Also the relationship the tech has with the Claims ppl makes a huge difference.

I tell customers if they are finiancing they should have as much covrage as possiable. and its what I have done personally when I have bought ATVs.
