I just don't understand how a magazine could get confused over the two different configurations. I wonder if it will still be a 360 degree crank, or maybe they changed it to a 180 degree crank.

They probably would not let the magazine guys look at the engine compartment until they revealed it at the show or their web site. I guess Polaris was right in the fact that they had not tapped all of the potential of the paralell. And I like the use of a roller clutch setup instead. I do wish they seperated the brake control though.

I also did not see the clutch cover on the left side. Is it possible that they got rid of the belt?

Sounds to me that by turning the engine longitudinally, they were able to move the drive clutch to under the seat instead of beside the engine. It probably drives a driven clutch off to one side of the drive clutch then off to the drive train, possibly shaft drive under the engine to the front? Or a huge change would be necesasary but maybe they have a drive shaft out the front and rear, ie two dirve clutches? Interesting idea on engine mounting for a quad, although not unique.

Guys, I just noticed something this morning. You have to look at one of the pics in the gallery at the Polaris site. Click on one of them with a full side view, and then click so you can get to the wallpaper version. After you click the largest size wallpaper, you can zoom in and get a close look at the PVT.

Right behind the engine and in front of the left rear wheel you can see where the drive clutch is, and based upon the upward angle of the cover, you can see exactly where the driven clutch is.

Makes you wonder how much more difficult it might be to access the PVT with it in that position. Can't wait to see it in person!

On the 550 it says a twin on the brochure but on this http://www.polarisindustries.com/en-us/ATV/2009/Extreme.../Pages/features.aspx

it says a single, but if you look at the 850 and the flip to the 550 they are the same engine pic.

I'll just have to wait till its all up on the dealer net.

It actually looks like the front storage is just in the center now, instead of the full width like before.

Did you guys notice that the 800 Big Boss has fully independent suspension on all 6 wheels instead of shafts and chains. That thing will be a monster pulling. It will not be long before highlifter gets ahold of one of those and lifts it.
