Hey everyone, I was thinking about putting a stage 2 or 3 cam in my bike, and was wondering what kind of other stuff I would have to get. I know the stage 1's can work with the stock stuff that is already there. Can someone give me some information on this?

Just a few camshaft basics. Cams that make more power usually do so at higher rpm levels. This could result in some gearing changes to take advantage of the rpm range. While higher rpm operation improves, lower rpm operation suffers. The cam grinder should be able to give you the operating ranges of the cams you're looking to install. Be realistic about your selection in the way you use your quad.

To compliment higher rpm operation, you might be looking at head work to take advantage of the increased air flow afforded by the increased duration and lift. If the head is not capable of flowing more air and fuel, the cam might not work as intended. The same can be said for the exhaust and intake systems. You may need a larger carb or larger free flowing exhaust for maximum performance.

Porting the head for better air flow.

Alright, thanks.

Is there anything else that I would need to do then?

Might want to look at upgrading your valve springs.

Labels like "stage x" don't mean a lot to me. Can you provide links to what you're looking at that have cam specs (lift, duration, centerlines)?

Looks like from your profile you got it breathing better with the pipe and k&n.Why do you want to cam it? Is it blown? Bomb If it is or you want real power I'd take it to a good shop CT racing,Trinity, and Alba are a few good ones. If it runs good I'd leave it alone for reliability? It's a torque monster already, the power gain will not be worth it imo. It's breathing better and thats about all they really need.

Well, my bike broke down last summer, and as I was putting it back together, I noticed that the cam that was in there already had a crack in it. So since I'm going to be getting a new cam anyways, I decided to look into something with a bit more power. But, I realized I didn't know anything about them, so that's the reason for posting here.

And Cajun, I'll try and find some links for what you are looking for.

Here's a link to Web Cams and their profiles for the raptor. They regrind your current camshaft which may or may not be an option depending on where the crack is located. The grind with 260 degrees of duration is probably the best trail grind. The others are stout and stouter. When comparing other cams, going out beyond 240 degrees of duration at .050" tappet lift is going to require higher compression pistons and will extend the rpm range and torque band higher up the rpm scale.

Hmm....that's an idea, I'll look into that tomorrow and see how much that would cost. And one of the "cam ears" broke, I found out what it was called when I was reading the important information on the raptor section.
