Guys, I am working on something, and need your input. When you are considering a new Atv, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Such as; price, engine size, EFI, IRS, etc... What would start with, and what do you think other people start with when deciding to buy a new Atv?

Please set aside if you are a die hard believer in one manufacturer. Such as you always bought a Honda, and you will buy one until the day you die. This is meant from someone that is considering all the different machines on the market, but want an easy to navigate through all the features, and options. Thanks.

Here is my example in what I look for, maybe you can give me your top three things;

1 - Must be 500cc+
2 - Must be EFI
3 - Must be IRS

1 - must be a Polaris

ROFL

Okay, okay, I couldn't resist.

For me #1 is utility. It has to be able to haul me and a deer carcas comfortably and be able to haul tools and other odds and ends easily without infringing on me.

#2 is a good 4x4 system that can be easily activated.

#3 is it has to have good power when I want to use it. I'm not going to put a cc limit on it. I'll know when I ride it if it has sufficient power.

#4 it must have hydraulic brakes. No rusty cables for me.

#5 would have to be ergonomics. How well everything is laid out and accessible.

I look for which ones have the features I want,
Then which ones have the features I want in my price range,
Then which one of those has the most power, not speed, but low to midrange punch!

That's why I ride a Grizz Flag

1) What purpose am I going to use the atv for?
2) Where am I going to be riding?
3) Has to be EFI.
4) How well the suspesion is?
5) Quality of the manufacturing.
6) Overall ease of use.
7) Has to be 4x4.

Secondary concerns: Price and Power.

1. EFI that will start in all weather conditions.. There is only one EFI on the market that will start at and below 32..

2.Good stability, suspension that won't bottom out after 10mins.

3.Versatility, have to able to drive on ALL terrain with ease of use, especailly lawns when I am landscaping.

4.Good usable on board storage.

edit to post: 5. Efi with 9volt battery backup start on twin cylinder machines. Again only one manufacture has this.

I find something very interesting about this question. How attitudes have changed.

When I got my 02 Sportsman 700 people used to give me static about not having a pull start and I would get stranded when my battery went dead and that they could start their ATVs no matter what!

When my 02 Sportsman 700 gave me carburetor problems twice and killed 2 rides, I said I would buy the next ATV that came out with EFI. People gave me static about how they could field strip a carb blindfolded while hanging on the edge of a cliff and get their ATV home and I would be stranded…

Keep in mind the people that answered here are not necessarily the people that gave me static but it is a general attitude change!

Not one person on this topic said anything about a requiring an umbilical cord!

And most people said they required EFI.

OK to be fair, my list

Reliable
EFI
Four wheel drive
Independent suspension
Good towing/carrying capacity
Reasonable storage capacity
MUST have torque to pull, push, drag, and tow.
Reasonable fuel mileage
Ergonomics that make it comfortable to ride for a reasonably long period.
Suitable for different riding environments
**************************************
TWO MUSTS!!!!

Be a full package i.e. 500 HP with a ¼ inch drive shaft doesn’t cut it OR full four wheel locking that requires 2 button presses, one lever to hold and holding your mouth just right doesn’t cut it either.

Be user maintainable with access to parts and manuals because - ALL DEALER NETWORK SERVICE DEPARTMENTS SUCK! The very few good dealer service departments are the exception!

Keeping my Guns, Money, and religion, you keep the change!
