Just bought my first ATV. Spent a few hours on some friends machines before, but pretty much new to the sport.

I bought a 2007 Grizzly 700 SE in sweet silver.

Plan to do a mix of riding, my dad and brothers do a lot of trail riding. We went up to Jackson Hole, WY - Victor, ID area last week and had a blast.

My wife's brothers just do riding at the dunes. I know my grizzly will never be a racer, but i plan on riding it with them as well.

A few questions for you guys:

1. I have read about some gas boiling issue on the grizzly. Is this still something to worry about? I understand my machine is a second build, but i didn't hear if it had been fixed.

2. Riding in sand. I used to ride a friend's banshee on the dunes quite a bit. If you didn't have paddle tires on, it was pretty much hopeless. Would you guys recommend getting a set of paddle tires for when i go with these guys? or just get some mudders with a little bit more aggressive tred and use them for trail ridding as well. Or just use stock tires cause it isnt going to matter anyways?

3. Any must-do mods for the grizzly?

Thanks ahead of time for reponses.

Hey Ditty,

Welcome aboard.

I agree on the Limited Edition Silver Grizz 700FI, my buddy has one and its very nice.

As far as the gas issue, the gas doesn't actually boil, its excessive pressure build up due to the check valve. Personally, I would not worry about, until you experience it. Really the only time you will experience it, should you experience it, is when you are low, slow, crawling, whether its rock crawling, mud riding, or breaking brush.

Here is a report I did on it.
Gas Pressure Build Up

As far as sand riding, I ll have to sit out on that. I don't do sand riding, and really haven't looked into tires. Maybe someone can jump in here, and offer some opinions.

As far as aftermarket parts, no doubt the first thing that has to go are the stock tires. The Grizz tends to sit fairly high, and is not the most stable in off camber situations. A good aftermarket set of wheels with a 1" offset, will help with the width, and stability. You can add wheel spacers if you really want to kick out the wheels some more. Tires and wheels are the biggest single improvement you can make.

A good aftermarket shock like Crutchfield Shocks will lower the ride height slightly, and improve the comfort.

That is really it, improve the stability, and comfort, and the machine is nearly perfect.

Hope that helps, you have one of the best quads out there.

I ride on some dunes here in Az. but I just use my 27" 589's,there pretty aggressive and Im not,for hill climbs ,so they work well for an all around tire for me.

Welcome to the Quad Squad, Ditty! Glad to have ya!

I'm in the same boat as you on the dunes riding... I just bought a new KQ and am trying to decide if I'll be okay with just a good set of aftermarket tires or if I'll need a set of paddles for the rear. Unfortunately, I won't be able to decide until next year when I go to Jericho. Either way, I'm going to buy an aftermarket set of tires anyway. I'm leaning towards Mudlite AT's in my atv's stock size, but have also heard that Bighorns will act like paddle tires in sand (unfortunately, they're spendy because they're radials). Do some online shopping, find a couple of tires you like, and do some research on them. Make a decision based off your preferences.

If worse comes to worse and you decide to buy paddle tires, the AMS Aerospeed is offered in 25" and 27" versions, and they're pretty good looking. Also kind of spendy, but I haven't found any other paddle tire offered in bigger sizes (not saying they aren't out there because I'm sure they are).

As far as the sand goes, no matter what tire you run, paddle or not, with all the weight you have you are not going to be able to run with the sport bikes. For the most part just put it in 4 wheel drive and let her rip. I have seen most every brand of tire out on the dunes and couldn't tell you what is best. PS let the air pressure down to 4 PSI or so it helps alot!!

I run 27" XTR's on my Brute. Only rode in sand for two days, what we did was turn to rear tires around (switch em side to side) and run in 4wd. Seems to keep the sand under the tires instead of pushing in away.
