I just bought my son a 2004 Polaris Trail Boss 250. He is only 13, but very tall for his age. I know he is supposed to be riding a 90, but his knees were up into the handle bars. He has been riding dirt bikes for several years and has some experience on ATV's. My question is, is there anyway to restrict the speed on his ATV until I feel he's ready for more???

I'm thinking you could silicone a small object (nut, dowel, etc.) in the ECT (electronic throttle control) housing that would eliminate his ability to go WOT. You'd have to experiment on the size so as not to restrict him too much.

welcome to ATVQS.

I just threatened my boys about how fast Mama would cut me off and they would lose their ATVs if they did something stupid. It worked on both my 12 and 14 year old sons when I got them their 400s 2 years ago and now even though my now 14 year old flipped his Atv, she didn't go off the deep end after that.

I've got a 12 year old on a 330. It has worked out real well. Like Gordon said, put the fear of god (mom) into him. If you do restrict the throttle be careful how far you go. When my son had his Sportsman 90 he got in a jackpot on a hill partially because I had the throttle restricted.

You can play NASCAR and put in a restrictor plate or you can cover up some of the air filter?
