Rotate the throttle assm. thats helps a lot. Sit on the quad hold the bars. your throttle assm should be in the same plane as your fore arm. If your reaching for it its not comfortable and causes cramping. After that ride more.

I like that idea of rotating the throttle assembly just a touch so that it is more in line with my forearm. I will try that this weekend.

There are several ATV gloves that have the 'spring-assist' built into the right thumb....but I do not want to be wearing gloves in a couple of months when the S. La. heat pushes 90. Maybe if I cut the the fingers out it would be OK (but really geeky)???

I have considered the twist throttle conversion several times, but I have read comments from folks who tried it who decided they were not happy with a twisty on an ATV.

If the above stuff fails, maybe I'll do as Cajun mentioned and figure out a way to 'soften' the spring in the throttle.

I've also read of people slipping a piece of heater hose over the lever. They said it worked just as good as those extenders.

We had the same sore throttle thumb as described when we first purchased our new Suzuki KQs.We had never experienced this on the older Suzuki 500s. My solution was as Kenny has previously posted, and that was to get a 4" piece of soft rubber Water Heater Hose that just fits tight and slipped over the throttle lever. By placing my hand and thumb over the additional length of the heater hose extension to the point that I don't use my thumb joint as the contact to press the throttle but a larger portion of my thumb and palm of my hand. This works for us and the best part,....... is it is CHEEP. 2thumbs

I haven't noticed our 450kq being difficult. I would try a thumb throttle extender. We used one for the girls a few years back and it worked great. I trimmed it down and filed it smooth again. I put it on a Banshee which has two mechanical slide carbs. They are pretty hard.

A mechanical person could go into the throttle and trim or modify the springs. But that could affect the safety if done wrong. The other choice is converting to twist throttle. I would start with a $10 thumb saver.
