I know it has been talked about before, but here is alot more info, you have to click on the play button to here the news story, sounds like AT&T, Verizon, Alltell and T-Mobile no mention of sprint. I called the trading post and they said that it may be turned on today, but no internet until next year.

TAYLOR PARK, CO (kbut) - The company that has pitched a cellular telephone tower in Taylor Park received part of the needed approval from Gunnison County recently for installation of the device which has been described as a 60-foot-tall galvanized steel pole.

I welcome this step into the 20th century for the area. Being a divorced dad, I love calling my kids everyday they aren't with me. If I don't want to be bothered, I turn the phone off. I'd love to talk to my wife and kids everynight after a ride. Not to mention it's probably going to be cheaper than that landline at the trading post.

Man, now I can add TP to my list of "vacation spots where I can spend my time away from home and people talking with people at home". I can even call into work in case I get worksick.

At least the goverment hasn't made me do this yet so I guess the choice is still mine. Shrug

This is great news for me. Now it will be easier to keep in touch with my daughter and her friend when they are riding without me. And, as a business owner it is extremely stressful not being in contact with my employees for a week. As long as I can answer my phone or receive messages I can work.
Oh, and luckily my phone came with an off button if I don't want to deal with it.

There goes the neighborhood. Now all the riff raff that couldn't be without will now be there doing there thing.

Hey I just saw a chippy in the strangest place, out in the forest...texting everyone on the contact list blocking the trail.

Hey! How'd you end up off the trail and down there??? Well all was going fine, then the cell rang.....and I just had to answer it, you know I'm very important you know, I'm a bagger at the Piggly Wiggly, figured they wanted to know whether to use paper or plastic, but it turned out to be my cousins friend Ester, they wanted to borrow a ladder, but I don't have one. Then as I was scrolling through my zillion an 3 contacts for Jim Bob. He has tons of ladders, that's when I zigged instead of zagging and next thing you know I was down here.

This is some of the crappiest news I have heard in a very long time. There was a phone if you absolutely had to make a call. I have been going to that place since 1982 and to me this is just plain bad news. I have been thinking about finding a new place to go. Now I need to look harder. I wish it was as simple as just leave the phone off and don't worry about it. But it is never that simple. Call me old fashion, but this blows!!!

I have to admit it does take away some of the charm of the place with cell service. I still plan on turning mine off after I turn at Buena Vista and leaving it off until I reach Buena Vista again. It is part of what makes it so relaxing for us just ride, enjoy the perfect views. sleep and do it all over again the next day. The toughest decisions are the trail to take each day and were to stop along the trail for the lunch views!!!

You guys need to figure out how to turn the phone OFF! Of course the problem is usually the guy in front of you at the Trading Post is talking on his cell instead of paying for his stuff and getting out of the way.

The REALLY bad thing about this is exactly what happened last week. I'm in the middle of a crappy week at work and the home phone rings....guess who, my buddy Don. He just HAPPENED to be sitting around the campfire in TP at 10pm and decided to call and tell me what a great time they were having. Frown

We just got back from TP. For those of you worried about cell service ruining the experience, relax. The service area is very small. We lost service between the trading post and Taylor Lake. It's not a normal cell phone tower. The service area covers the cabins and not much else.
