Hello,
I have heard that there is some challenging riding in the terryall area. I was told to go into south park and turn left at jefferson. Supposedly you can see trail heads from this road. Is this true? Is there riding in this area? Im kinda wanting to go there instead of central city if there are any fun trails at all. I would go to redcone but im pretty sure webster still has a ton of snow on it.

If you take a right at Jefferson (north) you will get to Georgia Pass.

Rolan, yes, there are lots of trails in the Tarryall resevoir area, some not so challenging, some south and east that are what I call exciting. Depends on what you consider challenging. A friend of mine has a cabin on the west side of the road. You need to go almost all the way down towards the resevoir to access alot of the trail system. Most of the trails are not numbered very well. Get one of the National Geographic Maps for the area.

Depending on where you are driving from, it is a longer drive down to Tarryall. Webster pass is probably open. I flew over it last week and the departure from Redcone was clear. I could not see all of Webster but the West side is completely open. There is still snow up towards Radical Hill so I am not sure that way is open yet, but you can get to the top from the West side. Redcone from 285/60 is probably pretty good. Hope that helps. Enjoy and let us know what you discover.

As Bum say's you can turn right and follow the signs to Georgia Pass which takes you over into the Tiger Run/ Breck area. Lots of good trails there as well. South Fork trail is always a challenge.

Thanks for the input fellas. I think we may try the Georgia pass area. How far from the turn off at Jefferson until you hit trails? Is there camping up there as we may try to go up the weekend after the fourth. Does it tie into the west side of the redcone area? I know i have ridden from redcone towards breck. I remember seeing a lake (gibson lake?) just soutwest of radical hill. We were looking down on it.. is that part of the georgia pass area? one more thing. does that road also take you to jefferson lake? Ive heard its a fee area that you cant atv at. oh, one more thing, What map would cover the georgia pass area?

Tom, does that tarryall system tie into the divide trails? I know if you ride 717 at woodland park, you can go pretty far west, but mining claims are closing those trails. Last year we rode Hackett Gulch(its open again) now that is a pretty fun trail especially right before the river.

Rolan, to the best of my knowledge you can not get from the 717 system into Taryall, there is alot of private property between west end of 717 and Tarayll plus you still have a long ways to go to get to hwy 77 that goes north from Lake George area. Reminds me there are a bunch of trails around 11 mile resevoir.... never riden ther myself, but may need to check that out.

Regarding Georgia Pass, I am not aware of trails that connect Jeffeson Lake to Georgia Pass. Jefferson Lake is a fee area, stay to the left and follow the signs to Georgia Pass, I believe there are places to camp before you get to the top. The west side of Georgia Pass is knarly due to errosion, ok on a quad but need a good Jeep for a vehicle, once you get past that section the trail is pretty good and goes down and meets Tiger Run Road. At the bottom you can turn right and that is the South Fork that goes up to the top of the plateau and you can ride over to Radical Hill and down over to Webster and Redcone or you can take the trail west over to St. Johns mine and then down thru Montezuma and then back up Radical Hill and around. Another choice is to go a little further down Tiger Run to Middle Fork and then ascend up towards Wise Mtn, then go explore. Wise is a treacherous climb. Say a pray for our friend at the cross, and be carefull. Many different loops that will take you around and back over to Georgia Pass. There are naby trails that goes west as well over towards Boreas Pass above Breck.

Regarding maps, I use the National geographis ones for the various areas, it may take two to cover Tiger Run Montezuma and Georgia Pass, another for Tarayll Resevoir. You can find then at Barnes & Knobles or Sportsman Warehouse. Of course several people have GPS's and have those maps but I like to see the big picture with a regular map. Let me know what you plans are, I am looking for a camping adventure after the Fourth...

East of Jefferson is rolling hills and easy dirt roads including the site for the 1840 era, Rocky Mountain College Rendezvous which is held in the first week of August.

West of Jefferson is the forest road leading to the Georgia pass area as several have stated.
