What lights did you go with?
I got some cheap 55 watt ones. I need to get them mounted.

I think it sounds like it could be a lot of fun, due to probably seeing more wildlife at night. Drawbacks could include, you will have to go slow to avoid the unseen until to late things that could leave you stranded or worse.

I have done it a couple of times. John brings up a pretty good point of reduced visibility. Just make sure you are going slow enough and know the trail well enough to aviod problems. Kinda like bunce school in the dark is ok. Don't think I would want to go over kingston peak in the dark. Maybe rollins pass east would be ok. For me, others may feel different.

Just the thought of something happening at night and how long it will be before anyone will even start looking for you could be all it would take. Are you prepared to amputate an arm or leg like the guy trapped by his furnace?

We got stuck in the dark with FISHERS ATV one time. It was a real experience getting back to the truck I knew the trails well but they sure look different at nite.

One of the members here had a write up a few years ago about one of their "group" that supposedly took a wrong turn while around Pitkin and they were staying in Taylor Park area. Search party (rest of group) went out looking for her and found her at camp. They then had to regroup all that were looking for her.

Done CC before - it looks a lot different at nighttime. I think as long as you take it slow it'll be ok. We didn't do Kingston Peak, but i'd be up for trying it sometime.

What's your light setup now?

Not sure which is more fun. Getting stuck or getting unstuck.

I would much rather ride at night. It just makes it that more exciting and it isn't as hot. For night riding I have put a set of HID lights on mine and the difference is unreal. Don't waste your money on any other set of lights get the HIDS because they are the brightest lights you can get.

In my line of work night (or early morning )riding is the norm. 3 things I would suggest - a headlight or spot mounted on the handlebars and a reverse light if your bike doesn't have a factory one and one of those headband torches on your helmet is real handy

I'm afraid to let my mind wander -it might not come back

Last time I rode at night was on 3 wheels, that's starting when it was dark. I have been out early evening and came back in the dark.

I put some nice "driving" lights on the Bomb, one night when the snow was really deep, thought I'd get a jump on things and start plowing some drive ways....running the winch up and down a lot, the driving lights, the quad lights, grip and thumb heaters, and stereo....the battery lasted till I was as far from the house as I would get. Only had to walk about a mile in the cold night with the wolves tracking me to get back to the house...not sure what that has to do with your original question, except be careful about the amount of current you pull.

Thanks for making me think of that crappy night. Smile

I nite ride at least 4 or 5 times a year. We always ride Rampart on New years Eve. We park on Jackson Creek and end up doing a 60 mile loop. It takes us about 5 or 6 hours to do it. I have a polaris sportsman 500 with no extra lights. The middle of the winter with a full moon is the funnest time. You can also go with no moon, but when you stop and shut off your bikes its kinda erie. you cant see squat.

I'm sure I was abducted by aliens, because quite a few years ago, me and this other durn fool was thrashing about on a moonless middle of the nite, irresponsible, stupid, just looking for trouble ride South of Quartzite and somehow crossed HWY 95. Both being first time riders in the area didn't help, but if the aliens hadn't ferried us across the highway without us knowing it, could of saved us many miles of wundering about in the desert!!
