I'm not familiar with areas in close proximity to Montrose. 35 miles south on 550 is the Ouray area that has some very scenic areas to ride. The Alpine Loop has a large network of trails where you can stage at Engineer a few miles south of Ouray on 550. A shorter area to ride but very scenic is Yankee Boy Basin, Governor Basin, & Imogene which is accessible just before the 1st switchback south of Ouray.

Sorry to hear about Sarge. I was actually thinking about him when I did that first reply.
One hell of a dog. Heaven's a better place now.

Hey John, dang, sorry to hear about Sarge, that was one great dog. I have pics of him at the dunes a couple years ago. It was my son who flew Rock On's quad, I'm fairly sure I have those pics, a few of them are on the web in this ALBUM

I think I have more, if you'd like I can check and send you a CD with them all.

We stay quiet often in Hotchkiss, about 40 miles up the road from Montrose. There are several areas you can ride out of Delta to the east and northeast. The guys mentioned about south to Ouray, Yankee Boy Basin, Alpin Loop, etc. If you head north to Delta (20 miles) and east right out of town, you can ride down close to the mouth of the Black Canyon of the Gunnision. We tried to ride here a couple years ago and was really muddy and wet and raining and decided to pass. Did not have enough time to get back when weather was better. We have ridden up on Grand Mesa several times. That is another 15 miles northeast out of Delta. You can check the maps but lots of good riding on the Mesa....

Sorry i did not read this earyer, If you are in Delta, Up towards GJ then go West to Gateway. Great ridding there if you can get info on where the trails are. there are two ATV clubs in GJ that can help. The best ATV riding though is up on Grand Mesa. The trails are just starting to dry up. Was there my self this past weekend. Silver Spruce was great. The High Trail was still not passably. Green Mt. trail was great as well. There is a free map at any dealer for this area great ATV rding as they are ATV trails not for jeeps in such. The trails are maintained by the clubs. They do a great job. Also great trails up on Uncompadra. have not explored that area much but would love to. There is a lot of riding on the western slop one just have to do a lot of exploring. again the two clubs out of GJ can help I will try to get a number and post it.
