I want to upgrade my warn to synthetic rope. On ebay I can get the amsteel rope with fairlead for 79.00 plus shipping, but can also buy a complete gorilla winch with synthetic rope and fairlead for 99.00. How does the amsteel rope compare to the gorilla brand? I,m asking because I would have an extra winch for 20.00 more if the gorilla rope is decent for my warn.

For me I am not sure I would feel comfortable with some economy rope pulling me an quad up over an obsticle. If that don't bother you give it a shot. The fairlead thing has been hashed around several times. I use my roller fair lead with no problems WARN shows winches useing rope with a roller fairlead. So I think is all personal preference.

OH YEAH this is COB I am on GOMERS puuuter, just thought boy I can stir all kinds of POO and blame it on GOMER. ROFL

Bought a Warn synthetic rope for my winch and the kit came with a roller fairlead. So I think that Warn must see nothing wrong with using a roller fairlead as long the rollers are perfect condition with no marks on them.

Rock Stompers has Amsteel atv synthetic rope for $46 and Spidertrax aluminum Hawse fairleads for $35. Shipping was reasonable. Processing and shipping was a little slow, compared to some of the big sites.
He's local in Colorado.

Doesn't Gorilla Winch's line have an 8,500 lb rating?

The 8,500 lb. rating is 1/4" rope and you're not going to get 50' of it on an ATV winch. By comparison, Masterpull's 1/4" rope is rated at 9,200 lbs.

I liked the prices here

The other thing to remember is that you are not suppose to use a snatch block with sythetic rope.

I maybe wrong but it isn't that you are not to use a snatch block. But rather not use a snatch block that is two pieces. If the roller is two pieces it has chance of pulling the rope down in between them.

I read somewhere that this would be the only reason not to use the snatch block with synthetic.
Regarding the fairlead - I got Hawse because of the simplicity and zero maintenance. Also because is smaller. And just a sugestion - go and check the dealer garage - usual they throw things like that away - I got mine for 5 bucks from a mechanic there

agree Yep,some snatch block ROLLERS/PULLEYS are two peice. Only use the ROLLER/PULLEY that is ONE peice. Pulleys we are talking about not the snatch block itself!

Confused, pics would help with 2 piece vs 1 piece point. Are we talking the groved round part inde snatch block that the rope or cable pulls against? Sorry if sounding stupid but this point seems important for safety.

Yes that is what I have pictured. I know I have seen snatch blocks with the pully in one piece and others where it was two pices with a grove down the center.

Didn't see any warnings on WARN. Found this on ROCKSTOMPERS where I bought my rope.

Winch Rope Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):
Some of the more common questions about winch rope.

Can I use my roller fairlead with rope?
Many of our customers do; the roller is susceptible to damage, and if damaged, can damage the rope. We recommend the aluminum fairleads because they are nearly impervious to the type of damage that causes roller fairleads to fail.

Can I use my snatch block with rope?
Yes, as long as it is not burred-up from steel cable.

I love my syn rope on my 2.5 XT. It came stock with a roller fairlead. I love it the rope is a lot easier ot handle and use than the wire cable. I can't believe nobody did it sooner..

Much easier to unspool, especially if dragging it up hills in deep snow
Doesn't kink
Doesn't have wire strands poking holes in your skin
Doesn't have hazardous sprung weight should it let go

I switched in mid-winter from wire rope to synthetic. Definately a plus up to this point and it has had a pretty good workout this winter with some serious side pulls when wedged in deep snow.
