Has anyone here used the Swisher brand snow plows or various attachments? In looking at various snowplows for my Sportsman I have looked at many of the brands and only the Glacier and Swisher seem to offer something different than the norm. I like the idea of the universal mount of the Swisher that allows the use of the other attachments. Any comments?

I was going to post this in a new topic. But Swisher is one of the brands I have looked at, so it is very close to being on topic in this thread.

I need a tractor, can't afford one, but need one. Mostly for leveling and scraping. So does anyone have experience with either front blades or rear blades on an ATV used for leveling and scraping work. I'm talking some pretty hard ground here, clay etc....

Yes I do Gomer, if you want to scrape then the BLACK LINE plow is just the ticket as it is the ONLY plow that has DOWN FORCE which is what you need for back dragging dirt, clay, sand, gravel etc.

The only reason I did not keep it was because it had to much down force for my needs and the Ruby did not have enough weight or power needed to make the plow perform as it can.

The Black Line is spendy and I truly think that behind a side by side or a quad that had weight behind it this plow would really shine.

If you have a gravel drive way as I do then the Black Line is not the plow to get as it will dig up the drive to much with the down pressure.

Back dragging the back yard was a breeze, check my Catfish Pond for pics.

Seeing you have Polaris, Here's a very important note. The Swisher accessory mount will work with ATV's that have "Lower A-arms up front only".

Gomer~ Note the Polaris note in prior post. As for the Swisher blade used for grading/dozing stone, hard packed dirt. It worked great for me, even without using the down force of my lift (see Pic link in Signature). I had since revamped the lift once again using a chain in place of the bar.

This set up was converted once again this past Thanksgiving weekend. Since the Kodiak is history. I modified the accessory attachment to fit my brothers side-by-side. It connects to the front 2 inch hitch, and bolted the lift to this also.

Seeing as others can use this bit of info, you can set the angle of the cutting edge of most plows. My old cycle country had it, along with the Swisher blade. Notice the Brass colored rectangle piece of metal with a bolt is This Picture. It was at the minimal setting. By loosening and turning it, you will gain a deeper cut. The Swisher also has this adjustment. In that picture the turnbuckles replaced the weak springs on the Cycle Country.

I have the adjustment a bit on the aggressive side on the Swisher, rarely tripping the springs when dozing with only a chain between my lift and the blade. Here is a picture of the Chain Set-up. I dozed and graded the 20 tons of stone with it set up that way.

That is most likely information I'd be sad to have learned after buying the Swisher! Am I to understand that the Swisher brand will not work on a Sportsman? Do they have something other for a mount for the Sportsman? I'm not very sure how the mount system works because I can't find any clear information about it. It seems odd they'd not design something to fit one of the most popular ATVs on the trails.\

Thanks for any advice or info you can provide. Smile

I don't have a picture of it that would show how it hooks to the ATV. There is a 2" square tube which goes from the front to the rear trailer ball hole. A Bolt goes through the tube and hitch hole. The front is an adjustable leaf spring which fastens to the tube. The ends of the leaf springs, mount to your lower Arms with brackets and pins provided. You mount the brackets before hand on the A-arms. When hooking up to the plow, you slide the assembly down, attach the bolt at the hitch, and put the pins in the leafs, attach your blade, bucket, forks, etc..., lifting devise, and away you go.

Watch the video @ ATV Magazine.

I remember seeing a simular set-up that used the rear hitch as a attaching point. Prospector Tim had it I believe on a Polaris. It was sometime ago when he lived in Colorado. I seen it in one of his many picture links, maybe being Webshots.

I just the other day received a setup from TM2 that blocks the rear of a IRS POLARIS. I don't fully understand how it works, but it is a quality made product as I have learded to expect from them.

Will be taking to GOMERS over XMAS and mount on his quad to see how it works. It from what I understand takes the sag out of the IRS and makes suspention solid, can be released after use.

Well here is a twist. I found some videos on swisherinc.com and guess what? They are demonstrating the units on Sportsman ATVs. I will have to contact them and see if they have something specific for this application. Maybe I can even swing some kind of discount for the website if they are willing to work with a potential group that way.

Found it, here is the link snow plow

After last winter's lots of snow the pow took a beating. I rebuilt the swivel part of it this fall. It being just a lawn mower plow, it was not ment for the Sportsman 500 slamming it into the large amounts of snow we had. But in the pictures you can see how I hook it up. One drawback with this set-up is that you can't raise it up very high. I have to back over curbs as it will hit if going straight over them. I plow about 1 1/2 miles of neighborhood sidewalks whenever it snows.

MAybe it was you Wayne, could have sworn it was Tims. Did any of you have horses where you used it to clean stables maybe??? The way yours fastens to the rear hitch though looks like that's what I remember. Brain is burping and farting, might have to be defragged. The information stored up top is mixing together if that makes any sense.

I did look through Prospectors picture links (via his website), and didn't find the plow I was looking for. Unless it was a swisher set-up on Connie's Big Bear or Kodiak, and not on the Polaris.

I'm not making any sense now, see you maybe tomorrow. Big Grin
