One of the winch accessory companies states "do not use synthetic rope with snatch block". Is there a problem using synthetic rope with a snatch block?

I think they are covering their rears in case you use their synthetic line in a used snatch block that doesn't have a perfectly smooth sheave, and the line parts, putting them in a potential liability position.

That's a thing about the synthetic line as opposed to wire rope. It's pretty delicate as far as burred rollers and contact with rock or any sharp edge goes.

If a synthetic line could never be used with a snatch block to double pulling ability or to get another nedded angle of pull by side blocking, and must be used only for straight pulls, then that would reduce the versatility of your winch so much that synthetic winch line would be pretty much a foolish investment, I'd think.

I hear that all the time burrs on rollers or here burrs on sheaves. Since both of these move with the line how are they going to damage the rope? Now if you are talking solid fairlead yes the rope cable what ever would be dragging across it. OLD WIVES TALES die hard. Beer

As with any thing be aware of rocks or sharp objects that you are winching over. I have the 5ft long protective sleeve on my rope that I pull to protect the rope if winching across rocks.

Can not think of any reason that a rope couldn't be used with snatch block. It is like fairleads even manufactors like WARN show synthetic rope being used with roller fair leads. But still the rumors are rampant you have to use a solid one.

If it is a two peice roller is should not be used. I will try to explain. If the main roller of the snatch block has two peices. Two halves bolted together. , there is a seam down the middle, the synthetic cable is soft enough to get down in that groove with pressure. Only use a solid main roller snatch.
