Our daughter and son-in-law picked up there new quad (an 07 Suzuki Eiger) on Friday, so Friday evening we loaded up and went to Laramie Peak northwest of Wheatland, WY. Stayed at Back Country Retreat and rode from there this weekend. Both mornings we all rode with Jean and I doubled up on the X2, Dawn on their eiger and Dan on his dirt bike on easy trails for the girls to get some time in on the quads. Afternoons Dan and I would take off on the quads for the more serious trails, Such as the radio trail up the back side of the Peak. 4.2 miles from the trailhead and after the first .2 miles when you cross the creek, its low range locked the rest of the way up. We had about 3 and a half miles of it done when we met a couple that was hiking and the husband was having problems with altitude sickness and didn't look too good. Doubled him up with me on the X2 and got them down off the mountain, so the peak still waits for us!
The trail was originally put in for motorized traffic for them to be able to service and maintain the radio tower on the peak and is still maintained for hiking, dirtbike,(although nobody's been up it on a dirtbike in a few years) and ATV's.
Also spent a lot of on Albany Peak which has a lot of trails from easy to some spurs with pretty good technical areas. We rode about 150 miles for the weekend up there and I think Dan and Dawn are both going to be hooked on quads now.
The Medicine Bow forest here has tons of trails, little traffic and we really enjoyed the weekend up there. Here's a link to some pictures I took up there.

Sujada...

I was up that way on the 10th on busness. Had to go out to the Double Four ranch.

Where is this Backcountry retreat of which you speak?

I went north of Wheatland and got off at the El Rancho Rd exit onto the Fletcher park Rd. Headed west.

A few miles down the road, there was a split. I went on the road to the north. Harris Park Rd.

I think this also went to a Boy Scout camp.

We have a motorhome and I noticed in your pic's that you towed a 5th wheel with utility trailer behind. Any problems with that setup?

All the time of my trip, I was thinking I wished I had my quad. It is a really nice area, and I always enjoy my trips to the ranch.

Back Country Retreat is about 3 miles west of Hubbards Cupboard (a notorious place that is now closed, but famous in its own right) and the Cottonwood School house, or 8 miles from the boy scout camp. They have a sign at the turnoff to go North up to their place. Rick guides hunters out of there in the fall. It's really primitive. Lights and power for the bar and grill come from Solar panels and 12 volt batteries with generators for backup. He has 3 cabins up there and is building a fourth. Camping is on the old hay meadow. He's had people there from all over the US, Germany, France and Australia he told us. The only problem I have is that lite 5th wheel just isn't heavy enough on the nose to keep weight on the pickup with the trailer behind. Especially going out because the fresh water tank is all the way in the back. Going home with the fresh tank empty it pulls fine, just have to watch it on the way out.

Weatherman,
Figured out how to save google earth images a jpegs. Here is an image of the area that may help you find it better than my description. I may not have the location of the double 4 ranch exactly right. Haven't been there since I helped them brand in 79. Here's a closer view. Laramie peak is right between Back Country and Friend Park. There is a trail that goes right through the Paulsen place (between his house and outbuildings) That will get you there. About a 25 mile ride instead of a 50-60 mile to go around Esterbrook.
