My wife Pam and I took the new Polaris out on Bunce School Road yesterday. Conditions were pretty nice this weekend. We started at the north end and headed south towards Camp Dick. We made it almost all the way but had to turn around due to deep snow and water conditions. We may have been able to make it all the way but my wife was getting pretty nervous with the slipping and sliding and we were riding alone. Plus this was the first ride for either of us on a quad. Anyway, we had a lot of fun and it was beautiful out....

I posted some pics here: Pictures Here !

was just today wondering about BUNCE, thanks for the report. great place to get the feel of a new machine. Might try RED FEATHER you would like that or even JOHNNY PARK, only one hill on JP that would bother you. You could by pass it by coming in from the south.

What were thoughts of the wife as far as comfort?

Did you make it to a closed gate or did you make it all the way to the camp ground? I would of bet that the gate would of been open this weekend. Maybe in a couple of weeks after vacation it will be open.

You could be called a brave soul or even a foolish soul for going out by yourself. Never know when something silly could happen and put you both in the drink. Be careful and let's get you in on some of the group rides soon!

Cob, we had a great time and the ride on the back is really comfortable. My wife agrees too. My wife wanted to drive some so we both got time on the back seat. I'm 6'4" @ 275Lbs and even at my size I was really comfortable on the back. It also felt quite secure back there. Other than being a little (okay, a LOT) nervous about my wife having 800cc's under her little thumb it was really a nice ride. You get to look around more when you're on the back.

I went on a trail scouting trip Sunday morning. I hit the north end of Bunce and the south end of Pierson Park. The gate at Pierson was locked. I tried to hit the south end of Johnny Park but turned around due to mud. Bunce looked most promising so I went home and picked up the quad & wife.

A big bonus of the day was seeing some Bighorn sheep on the way home. On Hwy 7 just outside of Lyons we counted 8 of the beautiful animals on the side of the mountain. Our first sighting of Bighorn in the year we've been in Colorado.

Shawn, We didn't make it to the gate. We were about a mile short according to our GPS track and Google Earth. See below... We backed off due to the conditions and lack of experience. Shrug

Gordon, I'm sure we'll be getting in on some of the group rides. My wife wanted me to ask if she'll be the only female in the group....

wait till the day you see a MTN GOAT they are pure white. You will see if you hit it just right many sheep at RADICAL HILL and that area. To me that area is one of the prettiest areas that we ride. Right outside MONTEZUMA on way to WEBSTER PASS and RED CONE.

A car trip thru ROCKY MTN PARK in the spring is awesome you will see many sheep in town and many ELK in the open meadows up high. If you are retired or disabled get a free GOLDEN AGE pass, free access to the park. Also I think living in LONGMONT tell gate keeper where you live show driver license and it is free access also.

She might be, but we'd sure love to change that! My wife would love to go, but unfortunately she has fibromyalgia and bumpy and jarring events are quite painful for her. So it still wouldn't be a concern if she were to go on rides with the groups because we're all here for the good of the sport and most if not all of the people we ride with are cool to it.

My wife is gonna ride some this year. I know Greeley Guy's wife was wanting to go on some rides also. When I get back from vacation, I am gonna take the wife on a beginners ride, which I will post.
Looks like you were just short of the gate. When the gate is open you can go up to the plane crash, or through the camp grounds and get to middle st varin road and coney flats. Very nice ride in the summer.

Shawn, I was going to ask that. It looks like there is some asphalt for a short distance between the south end of Bunce and the beginning of St. Vrain. Is it okay to ride OHVs through the campgrounds to get from one trail to the other? Assuming both gates are open.

Cob, Looks like you got the distance between you and Poopsie just about right. Keeps your noggin' just out of cane striking distance... Wink

Cob,

I came up with a great idea for a "Muffler Mod" you could do to your Two-Up....

Yes, you can ride through the campgrounds to access the other trails. Use common sense, as last year I camped at peaceful valley and the campground host didn't have to nice of things to say about atv's dirtbikes and 4x4's.
It is also nice to camp there or camp dick and spend the weekend riding.
for an easy ride for you and the wife try switerland trail up by gold hill.switzerland trail
I usually park at the over by mount alto picnic area.

Tammy is looking forward to some "guys and gals" rides this summer as posted in other forums. Great to see you got it out on the trail for the maiden voyage. Have you got it broke in yet with the dreaded "first scratch"? It isn't a quad till it gets one.

Shawn,

Thanks for the tip on Switzerland trail. In looking at info online about the trail some people say NO ATVs are allowed on the trail. Is that information incorrect? Or maybe there are parts of the trail open to ATVs ?

I have ridden it before, and Rock On rode it last week. It is a county road, but the forest service has checked my ohv permit on the trail and that is it.

Switzerland is an old railroad bed. It used to be an OHV route. I can't imagine it being a county road. It's been a long time since I've been on it, does it have a county road sign?
