I was making up a list of local riding areas for quick day or over night trips. Then I thought I might just want to share it with all. This was made up for people in the SW Washington and NW Oregon (Portland) areas. But anyone can gladly use it. Have a fun and safe ride.
SW WASHINGTON RIDING AREAS

Jones Creek
Located east of Vancouver, WA.
From either northbound or southbound I-5, take I-205 exit towards Vancouver, WA. Use Hwy 500 East (Exit 30 / Orchards Exit). Go east on Hwy 500 to Fourth Plain (1st Light) and turn right continuing on Hwy 500 east (Camas). Go 6.3 miles, and turn left on 53rd Street. Go 3.2 miles and turn left on Ireland Road. Go .3 miles and turn left on Lessard Road. Continue on Lessard Road for 4 miles and follow the signs to Jones Creek ORV Trail head and Parking Lot.

Pigeon Island
Located west of Castle Rock, WA
Take I-5 to Exit 49. If going northbound, take a left on Huntington Ave. If going southbound, take a right on Huntington Ave. (Turn away from Burger King and go towards downtown Castle Rock). Then take a right on Cowlitz View Drive NW. Stay to the left when you see a fork in the road (it leads to a gate). Park on the side of the road and follow the road on your quad or bike. This will lead to a small bridge that you have to go under, and usually a huge puddle to go through. The puddle is deep (2 -3 feet) unless you say to the far right. Then you can ride the sand along the river.

Service and Middle Trail

Located west of Trout Lake, WA
Go east on HWY 14 to about MP 63.5 and then turn north on HWY 141 to Trout Lake. Travel about 23.8 miles before you turn off HWY 141. (Be sure to stop in Trout Lake at Andy’s Chevron for the last minute supplies and gasoline. The small adjacent restaurant, KJ’s is great for breakfast or a burger and shake.) As you travel through Trout Lake, bear west and continue out of town. Pass Hwy 80 that turns north. Cross a small bridge and go past a few buildings. Keep going to the first main road on your right (T600). Follow this road for about a mile. If you are on the correct road, you will cross a dry creek bed in the middle of the road. Stay to the right and look for the sign that reads SERVICE TRAIL ROAD. There are a couple of small places to park. Continue on this road to the north until you come to a road and take a left. Proceed a couple hundred feet until you see a burm of dirt. Take a right. This is the start of the Service and Middle Trail.

Blue Lake / Dark Divide
Located south of Morton, WA
From I-5 take Hwy 12 east to Randle, WA. Head south on the 23 Road to the Blue Lake Riding Area. Or take I-5 to Hwy 503 towards Cougar, WA. Take the 90 Road east while heading northeast towards the Blue Lake Riding Area.

NW OREGON RIDING AREAS
Colton
Located near Colton, OR in the Mt. Hood National Forest and State Lands

Go to the school in Colton. From the school, follow the road to the end and turn left. Follow this road to the end and turn right. Go to Hunter Road and turn left on it. Continue until it turns to gravel and then go another mile. You will come to a gated road that is the entrance to Molalla Gum Club. Continue to the second gated road. Park there. You will see yellow keep out signs so don’t ride in that area. Go up the road about another mile and the posted area ends. This is where the National Forest and BLM Land begins. Easy trails are on the down hill side. Harder trails are up to the right. You are on the 4510 road, which is the main road that runs along the side of the hill. There are some logging roads on the down hill side but beware that many have been closed and don’t go through. Pay attention to where you are. The first trail past the big gate on the left will make an 8 – 10 mile loop if you stay mostly to the left.

The riding area is located on the east side of the Mt. Hood National Forest off of roads 2130 and 2110, which are accessed via Hwy 216.

Upper Nestucca
riding area is here. http://arrmc.com/_wsn/page5.html
Is is a fun place to ride but not for kids, the trails are not as maintained as some other places and the ruts get pretty deep.

Ahtanum Forest
I ride at the Ahtanum State Forest a lot because it is close to home but I also go other places.

The following site is the best I've found for Oregon riding areas.

Washington doesn't have as good a site anywhere.

This following site has a page for every state. The trouble with it, is it has incomplete info for a lot of areas. It doesn't alway tell you it is a motorcycle area only, etc.

Riding Suggestions

Make sure you call the local managers of the lands you are planning on riding. There may be local closures or restrictions you need to be aware of. Check at the Ranger Stations on road and trail conditions.
These trails are way out in the forest and away from any help. Stop to look around. Don’t run off the trail while gazing at the scenery. Law enforcement officers may patrol these areas on a limited schedule, so be prepared. Cell phones and GPS’s may work on ridge tops, but not in the canyons. Have a reliable ORV, and carry extra food, water and a jacket. Be sure you can stop within the distance you can see.
Be prepared for unknown conditions.
All bikes must have Forest Service approved spark arrestors and current ORV tags or license plates.

Come have fun in the Great NorthWest
