I am member of the Triad Trailblazer ATV club in the Winston Salem/Greensbore area of NC. Last year 21 of us went to Utah to ride for 10 days. We are planning a trip for 2010 and are thinking of Idaho, Montana, or Colorado. We are looking for a place where we do not have to move very often but can ride a lot of trails. Last year we used a company that hauled our ATV's to Utah for us and stayed and rode with us. It is a pain to reload 21 ATV's in side a double decker semi to move.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've been mulling this post over the past couple of days, and realize the investment made in a trip like this. Since you have had experience coming out West, and are familiar with public lands, and the ability to ride. Most likely given the requirements in your post would be to look into the Northern Idaho town of Wallace (google it) and check it out. They have miles of trails, good facilities, and are a ATV friendly community. And for what its worth, I have no affiliation with the community other then going to the ATV festival. I live in Western Idaho, and while there are miles of trails available between this area and Eastern Oregon, it would require picking up and moving on a regular basis. Good luck, and your pluck in doing this have to be admired. I did, a couple of years ago end up at the Yadkin Valley Stomp, the GNCC race.

Bob, do you guys camp as in tents, RV's or cabins? I would think if you do the cabin deal, you really need to be calling now for next years reservations.

I will also vote for Taylor Park, Colorado.

TAYLOR PARK custom made for what you are looking for. Once you land there is no reason to load till you go home.

We normally would stay at a small town motel or a place that has cabins. Last fall when we rode the Paiute System in Utah we stayed at the Big Rock Candy Mtn Resort cabins and motel. We will also spend one night on the trail if possible. We are all experienced riders riding mostly in the WV Hilltop and Wagon Wheel area along with the Hatfield McCoy Trail System.

Thanks for the Taylor Park advice. Having been on this forum for a while I have seen that a lot of members are from Colorado and ride that area a lot.

When the time gets closer I will ask for thoughts on where to stay and beg for some GPS tracks.

Thanks,
Bob

Add anouther vote for Taylor park. The only problem is that you wont be able to get cabins for this year yet and town is an hour drive away so that wont work very well either. Mybee do Idaho this year and then be getting reservations made at the trading post now for next year. For pics of Taylor look in the link in my sig.

Thanks to everyone for the input. Taylor Park is definitely near the top of our list. We won't decide for several more months.

It is probably already too late to get reservations for 21 people at Taylor Park in 2010 unless you go in October or later.

I would go with Wallace Idaho. The history of Wallace is well worth the time spent there. I do not remember the group that runs this area. But you cannot go wrong. They would love the extra income that a group like yours would bring in.

Thanks for all of the info. We have decided on Taylor Park and have already made cabin reservations. We are coming in mid September, hope that is not too late.

I would appreciate any gps tracks anyone has, particularly for day trips. I am currently in China and don't get home till Nov. Please send anything you have to rtitzer@triad.rr.com

Thanks, again for all of the help.

Bob

Just post the dates you will be in TP and you "won't need no stinking maps!" I'm sure there will be local quadsquad members who will be more than happy to join up and lead you astray guide you!

Mid Sept, most of it will still be a lot of fun, and a little dusting of snow might even make it MORE fun and keep the just down at the same time. About the only draw-back is that Williams Pass is ONLY open during the month of August; but there are so many other trails available you won't even miss that one.

Currently we have 20-22 that are coming and have made reservations.

We have decided to drive and leave NC on 9/10 and ride from 9/11 to 9/18.

As the time gets close we will post and try and hook up.

Thanks,
