I spoke with the man at V Force John about primary clutch mods. I wanted to know what it would be like so I pulled the cover and removed the EBC fork. I am not sure if I was talking to John or not. He said the EBC only affects braking below 5mph. So once you slow to 5mph the engine free wheels. But I think you can over come this by tipping in a touch of throttle. If you crack the throttle a touch it seems to brake down to about 3mph. It feels pretty good. I need to ride some steep stuff and see if I can live without the EBC. If so the clutch is going to VFroce John.

yup, you are right, there is a very small area that the EBC actually affects braking, and the slow downhill decents is where it is most noticeable, to tell you the truth, i can rarely tell except when coming down steep hills...

you are right about the blip of the throttle, i use it all the time to slow down

I still haven't done any good trail riding with the EBC out. I pulled the primary tonight and am sending it to John. I will talk with him before he cuts on it. I think I want stage 2. I am very happy with the stock clutch. It has smooth low engagement and stops great. I am mainly interested in the sheave contouring. I would like it to adjust up more on top end. I guess there is a governor in the stock sheave angle. I am also thinking about keeping the stock spring. I don't know exactly which way springs go. But I don't think I would want a higher stall by much for trail and farm work.

Well I finally got the maroon spring from EPI that John said to run in the stage 3 clutch. I have questions for Elky now. Did you notice a loss of engine braking overall? My bike whines down but it does not stop like it used to. I am worried I lost too much engine braking even with the EBC running. I wonder if the stock spring will help or if it is the new sheave angle...

i didn't notice anything on high speed slow downs, you will notice the engine braking change at slower speeds, even more than 5 mph that john claims, as the engine braking kicks in before that....

as for the whine, that doesn't have anything to do with the clutch, that is the square cut gears in the motor

even without the true engine braking with the stage 3, just use the throttle, you don't just blip it, you have to hold it on slightly, after time you get used to it

Well I got a few miles on my new clutch and maroon spring. It stalls a little high under load for my liking. It actually stopped half way up the ramp loading it. I had to rev it to 4 grand it felt like to get it loaded. I climed a few dirt hills and same high slip RPM feeling. What is surprising is the low range is higher and very usable. So I may ride in low range now. I could do 35mph in low... I may put the stock spring back in and see how it does.

Thanks fo the feedback on stall RPM TX. I was wondering about that. We do a little rock crawling up here and want to avoid that kind of stall.
That's why I decided to go with the pink primary. Maybe a little mild for all out racing. But as long as I can stay out in front of Cabman I'll be ok. Wink

I don't think it is the spring as much as the stage 3 cut on the pulley itself. The maroon spring is only 1-200 rpm. On flat ground it isn't noticeable until you get a load on it or climb a ramp.

I put the stock spring back in tonight and installed my Elkas. The clutch is more responsive now so that is a good sign. The Elkas look great. I don't have rough enough stuff at home to test them out well.
