Had a few mods done to my primary clutch on the 08 BF 750, less rotational mass, better acceleration through the whole power band, higher top end, better fuel mileage, more torque, etc...

This is a Stage 3 mod, cover, spiders and sheaves....

Took it out for a quick ride today, yeehaw...will do some further testing soon:

I wouldn't know what the stock clutch looked like either. It makes it hard to appreciate what's changed.

the top cover is shaved, if you seen the stock one you could see how much, i messed up and didn't take pics before i sent it in, so i understand what you are saying...

on the mods to the spiders and sheaves, i can't say exactly what he did, as i don't know without ripping it apart...

here is John's info to me prior to the mod:

"I modify the sheaves, spider and faceplate. I remove near 1 POUND of rotating mass from the front clutch.

spider mod changes the effective Mass of the weights. it makes them act heavier on the low end and lighter on the high end. NO clutch kit on the market can compare in performance.

20% more overdrive, less weight and rotating mass means faster rev's more low end, modrange and top end. Fuel mileage is greatly increaced as well. there are NO drawbacks

all you need is am EPI Maroon spring. DRS22 is the part #

I've done this since 2003 and have over 750 machined clutches all over the world, Germany, Greek Isles, Austrailia, South Africa, UK, Canada, Mexico.

trust me when I say you"ll love it. no other mod for the price compares in performance and speed gained, smoother operation, better fuel mileage, and longer life".

Interesting, thanks Elk.

So when you have a chance to give it a good try out I would like to hear your thoughts on the clutch mod.

As long as it performs as advertised, that's all that matters. 1 lb. of material, wow. Not all that easy with light weight materials.

took it out for awhile just now, windy as heck out, had on the helmet cam, but really windy, was trying out the bullet cam that came with the samsung SC-X300L, too noisy, will have to do some more video later with my racecamera.com bullet cam...

I have to say, acceleration is greatly improved, thing wheelies like crazy, in high gear, front end is off the ground on all takeoffs....acceleration is consistent and continuous, can't wait to see what it did to the top end...torque is very noticeable, not sure i like the engagement on the maroon spring for rock climbing, its not that high, but feels around 1700 rpms or so, makes wheelies alot easier lol

i'll be doing an article on it for atvonlinemagazine.com

here is more from John:

"Without going into specs.

What is simply done is the sheaves are clearanced to allow the Overdrive. the sheave angle is changed to allow the clutch to focus the grip on the belt better. the faceplate is lightened and machined, KEBC bearing is removed. the spider is modified to make the fly weights act heavier on the low end and lighter on the top end".

cost for Stage 3 is $265 which includes priority return shipping...

you can talk with him prior, have to remember, stage 3 gets rid of the KEBC, the kawi's engine breaking stinks anyways, so no great loss there, to tell you the truth, i can't even tell its gone, feels the same when slowing down, which i'm always hard on the brakes

Hmm, how does it slow down without the KEBC? I guess I could unplug the EBC and test it that way... Do the clutches and springs naturally slow the bike down? I wonder if that is most of the 1lb weight savings? Engine breaking is half the reason I bought a new bike. I don't want to be flying down the mountains on the brakes. Thanks for your input.

i think you'll be surprised, the only time i can really tell the engine braking is there is when i'm going slow, steep terrain, and the kawi works best when going really slow, when there is some speed involved doesn't work very well....

so its up to you, he can mod it and leave the KEBC bearing in and still modify the spider and face plate, possibly more, but not sure unless you talk to him

Has anyone did any comparisons between the stock primary spring and the epi maroon after clutch mods? If so what are your thoughts?

Maroon spring is about 200rpm higher stall than stock so it slips more when trying to climb hills and load up in the truck is where I noticed it. It was kind of annoying. It also took about 3mph off the engine braking raising the minimum speed from 3-4mph on decel to 7-8mph. I put my stock spring back in for Colorado and it was about perfect. The maroon may be okay for empty playing.
