I have owned just about every type of RV (at least once) except for a toyhauler. The problem I see is the fact that you cannot always ride from camp. And, unless it's a "garage" model; you have to unload to be able to sleep. They sure do look nice and have a lot of capacity.

Grizz, we have towed an Airstream for about 25 years and starting ATVing about 3 years ago. I loaded the two ATV's on the bed and hauled the Airstream behind. This past January, we bought a 38' Newmar X-Aire Toy Hauler. It seems to be working out great for us. We still haul the two ATV's on the back of the truck if we can't ride from the Toy Hauler as you inidcated. We do like hauling and securing the ATV's in the TH much better. AS far as sleeping, most of the larger (34' or larger) TH will sleep atleast 6 inside the trailer. Most have the option to sleep 2-4 more in bunks in the garage area. Also I would assume most of the TH have the garage sealed from the trailer side as the Newmar is. Even when bikes are loaded, no smell inside unless you open the fuel caps of have a spill or something. Overall we love our TH and it really works out best for us. Since we only have two adults (unless the grown kids come along), we have tons of room inside. Our unit also has A/C and heat in the garage so is just as nice when bikes are unloaded... They are definitely worth checking out...

Grizz, we bought a Cherokee Wolf Pack TH, Model 295 FW. We love the thing. Has room for two atv's in garage part and we can still get in and out to use restroom and even sleep while in route. This particular model has a electric lift dinette in the back, but you can't load Rhino's, Rangers, etc. with this set-up. If only atvs, it's great. I would sure get the onboard generator so you can setup anywhere. We just spent 10 days/9 nights in New Mexico. Went into town once to wash clothes and get some gasoline. Good Luck!

We have a KZ with the seperate garage and we really like it. I read a lot on other forums that people say there are no gas fumes when you take out the quads. We store our ATV's in the trailer and there is a little bit of gas fumes in the garage area that goes away fairly quickly when it is all opened up. I do not have the gas station with mine, I wish I did, it would beat carrying cans. We never have ran into the problem of having to transport our ATV's after we set up camp, we just make sure we camp somewhere we can ride from. You can read over on rv.net, they have a very large toyhauler section.

Grizz, We have a 32ft Weekend Warrior, with no garage I get two full sized atv and two sport atv's with no problems,no gas smell but I do not store them in it(at home so I can work on them). A gas station are great but make sure it is big enough the first tayhauler we had only had 25 gal 5 days 4 atvs that goes pretty fast, now mine has 40 gal.
Good Luck

grizz - We had a KZ New Vision toyhauler, separate garage, fuel station, on-board generator - all the bells & whistles.

We sold it because we were able to only ride out of camp. We like to haul to other trailheads when we camp. Plus the size of the toyhauler didn't work for the back country campgrounds. We didn't have a problem with gas fumes. Once we set up camp, we unloaded the ATV's. We considered putting a flatbed on our truck and loading the ATV's onto the flatbed to haul to other TH's but didn't do that.

Now we have a 5th wheel camper and pull an 11' flatbed trailer behind that with the ATV's. Works great for us. Some states however do not allow tandem pulling. We have pulled setup tons of miles and no problems. It is a problem however if you have to backup. Bob put a wheel on the flatbed hitch and it makes it super easy to move, if needed. Having the 5th wheel separate works great so we can take other trips and not have the extra weight when not wanting to 4 wheel.

Good Luck in your decision.

We went through this very same decision earlier this spring. We wanted to move from a Travel Trailer to a 5th Wheel but were not sure if we wanted a TH or not. We did a lot of looking and thinking on this and what we ended up with was a 31' 5th Wheel trailer pulling a 10' trailer behind it. And really love the set up. We can dry camp if needed. The capacities are less than the TH but we will deal with that when we do dry camp. So far we just go to a nice full service RV park and get all the comforts of home and then trailer the ATV's to the trail heads. It also worked out as the cheaper option with the most versatility.

Good luck and have fun in your search. There are a lot of nice trailers out there to choose from. After awhile they all start to look the same Smile

I bought a 20' toy hauler 5 years ago. I haul my X2 and trailboss in it all the time. In fact I have to 2.5 gallon gas cans in the back of my X2. When I get to camp and start to unload, the gas fume smeell is present. By the time I get the quads unloaded and camp set up, gas smell is gone. The seperate garage models are certainly nice, but it really depends on what size you want and the capacity of your tow vehicle. I am pushing the limit with my 1/2 ton Dodge so thos trailer made sense for me.

My trailer is a bumper pull with the garage, so yes, you can get it both ways, 5th wheel or bumper. Just more options with the 5th wheel.
Never tried pulling 2 trailers, but I would suspect it has it own set of issues, especially at gas stations and trying to back up. Which I assume you just can not do. Best of luck in your search !

There are lots of threads around about pulling a tandem trailer. I know for me it was not bad at all. You do have to be more selective on the gas stations you go to but that really has not been an issue. And there is no backing up. But out on the open road it works really good. We went with an aluminum frame trailer that was very light. Our Ram 2500 pulls the unit fine. I did add airbags to the truck.

I'm looking at two things to make the experience better. One, I want to see if I can get one of the wireless cameras working so I have a better view of the trailer while towing. I tried a $100 special and I think the alluminum frame interfered with the wireless connection. As I didn't get a clean consistant picture.

Two, we have a 10' trailer that because of weight doesn't require breaks. I would feel better with an ATV trailer with breaks.

No matter what you do you are going to have to keep a close eye on the weight of the unit you look at. Either way you go you can get close to maxing out the weight of the 3/4 ton truck pretty quick. Don't want to get the weight police going on this. Just remember you need to be able to stop whatever you are pulling.

Good luck and have fun with you shopping.

We have a Cherokee Wolf Pac with the open trailer on the front that will haul 2 full sized atv's, and a 18 foot travel trailer on the back and love it. It comes standard with a ton of bells and whistles. It is a bumper pull so that leaves the back of the truck open for the kids dirt bikes. We do have to camp where we ride and haven't had a problem with that. We have had it for 2 years and love the fact that we don't have to take 2 cars or 2 trailers. Bonus....You only need a half ton to tow it, just make sure you get a good equilizer hitch.

Yeah ATV Mom, I see those around, and think they are a good idea. Guess they handle okay. Without the quads it looks like they might have a tendancy to whip. Those considering a train might want to educated themselves on the laws of different states that they will travel in. I know Oregon does not allow this pratice.

I do have a bunch. Let me get them posted. I will try and do that tomorrow. I can also get you the information where we bought it.
With the equilizer hitch my husband says it handles great. We have taken it up to the mountains and up to Sturgis, South Dakota and it handles great. We have towed it both with and without the atv's and seemed to do great.

The EFI machines are great. I got Maxx Air vent covers for my two roof vents. So I travel with the vents up. gas fumes are non existent or dissipate very quickly. I try to carry loose cans in the truck bed and shut off any pit cocks.

We have a Wolf Pack TT and it works OK for us. We can fit 3 4x4s if you turn the back one crossways or 4 sport machines in it. Its the 26WP model. If you click on the link in my sig there is a album marked toy hauler where you can see it. We never have any gas fumes in it at all. Some have stated that you have to unload to sleep in themat nite while traveling but thats not the case. We routinly stop while traveling and sleep in it while loaded. Ya you cant use much of the space but all we do is crawl in and go to bed. Its not like we are going to spend 12 hours at a rest stop and want the full function of th camper while there. We are trying to sell ours rite now mostly due to my hours beeing cut but we decided that even if my hours come back up we may still sell it and buy a 5th wheel and put a small trailer behind it. We havent put a ATV in it now for well over a year so theres no real point in having a toy hauler for us. the few times a year we need one we will just pull doubles.
