As some of you fine folks know I have been laid up for a while and now I am suffering a bad case of cabin fever. To put my atvs on my old hauler is quite a chore for me and is more work than allowed for the present. With that being the case, the wife and I decided to look for trailers for hauling. I wanted a small open trailer but the wife convinced we to get an enclosed trailer.

So here's the question. Since the floor and ramp is plywood, what suggestions does anyone have to put a coating on it to protect it from the crap the atvs may haul in and drip on it? I think it also needs to be something that is not slippery when wet. It also must be a non-tranparent finish because the wood is already marked with footprints, tire marks etc.

Please help???

The ramp on my toy hauler is OSB. I bought a Herculiner kit from the auto parts store a couple of years ago and rolled it on the ramp. It has hld up fine. The only issue I have with it is it is a little slick when wet or dusty. I may add another coat and throw some sand on it while it is wet for tracton.

I bought a heavy rubber mat from Sams club and put it in my old Haulmark enclosed. It is the same stuff they sell for garage flooring. I liked it. I have diamond plate in my current toyhauler, but put the herculiner over the diamond plate on the ramp because the diamond plate is slicker than snot when wet.

Perhaps you could put down some rubber mats as previously mentioned to the trailer flooring, and then affix some expanded metal to the ramp? The expanded metal would be slip resistant, or at least help out greatly, and help to grate off muddy shoes, wheels, etc before actually entering the trailer.

I own an enclosed trailer, but I use it for work more than I do for the quads. I do however load the quads up in it when I got to haul more than one. I did not install anything onto the floor of the trailer specifically for the quads though, but here is something I did do. (did do, hahaha) Anyway, when I bought the trailer brand new, I simply doubled up the flooring by adding an additional layer of 3/4" treated plywood, and screwed it right on top of the manufacturers floor. This way if it ever got gouged or messed up in any kind of manner, I could simply repair the floor by replacing the top layer of plywood.

I have had the trailer for almost 3 years, and being a tile setter by trade I believe my trailer gets more abuse than a quad trailer would. In the 3 years I have had the trailer, I have not seen any signs of flooring damage.

good luck with whatever you should choose to do the floor, let us know what works when you get it done...

PS

Have you gotten a trailer yet? What size you looking for? Any particular brand? I highly recommend a Wells Cargo brand. IMO they are the best on the market.

My enclosed I sprayed on Rattle Guard bed liner on the floor and up about 2 feet on the walls (got that off of Ebay). It has barn doors, so I used an aluminum ramp. I did that back in 2000, and still holding up good.

My ATV Shed I painted it with a skid not floor paint from Lowe's. It has a grit to it, so you do not slip.

This is the same Rattle Guard Kit I got to protect the wooden floor on my enclosed trailer. If you have a compressor or use of one, the kit includes a spray gun.

BB250, I have purchased an Interstate brand trailer. It appears to built quite well with 2" X 4" square tubing for the frame. The top above the frame is constructed with 1" X 2" square tubing. The outside is covered with .030" steel sheet. The inside is lined with 3/8" plywood on the sides with 1/2" plywood on the floor. The ramp feels quite sturdy with a 3/8" plywood cover inside and is assisted by a garage type door spring. The side door also has heavy duty hinges that should never sag. The two doors are secure with cam-lock levers. The tires are 15" so I won't have to grease them each trip. I guess time will tell how well it will hold up.

Kenny I noticed you put the paint(skid not) on the floor of your shed. How do you like that?

I am debating on the the skid not vs something like the rattleguard spray stuff. I have that in my truck bed but its pealing. I dont want the stuff to peal off the floor of my shed. Mind you I have no idea who and or what they used on the truck as it was already in there when I got it.

Oh my shed floor is 3/4" pressure treated plywood.
