If I were to buy a truck today in the smaller class .. it would definitely be either the Tacomo or the Tundra...no question..

With 380 hp it cannot be fuel efficient. Besides what full size truck is? The regular cab 4x2 tips the scales at 5,000 lbs.

Will it burn more gas than a smaller enginge? Probably not that much more. A lot depends how heavy your foot is.

Voodoo, there's nothing small about the new Tundra.

Yea Cajun, I know the specs on it,,16-20mpg,but I wanted to know in "real world" what the mpg was..If,,and I mean "IF" it would get that mileage with that kind of hp and torque, I would still consider it fuel efficient. Heck, my Dakota V6 gets 19-20 and I'm happy, but it doesn't have anywhere near that power, and when pulling the trailer and atv it drops to about 17-18mpg. My thinking is with that much power on tap pulling a trailer wouldn't make as big a differnce in mpg. I could be wrong, but that is what I'm thinking. Smile,And those brakes it has,,WOW! shock Angel

Last "overall" review I saw of 1/2 ton had
#1 Toy
#2 Nissan
#3 Chev
#4 Ford
#5 Dodge

The Toyota was fastest and with all bells added most luxurious. The Nissan came in a very close second in all categories and got better gas mileage.

As you can tell I'm looking... The 08s are on my map... But the Nissan is top of my list unless I decide 3/4!

For fuel mileage the Dodge with the Hemi ought to be on top. With mine I am seeing between 20-22mpg on the highway.

I can't picture you (or Clint Eastwood) climbing out of nothing but a Real Truck at the end of a long dusty ride heading to the fridge for a cold one. Beer It's just not you Tony. Roll Eyes Big Grin

Me too, with my 3/4 ton, 4wd, crew cab, long bed silverado classic. Probably wouldn't do so well without the duramax and definitely didn't do that well during the winter but now that the nights are staying above the 40's it's pretty nice.

Keep in mind the main reason the Tundra's 5.7 is rated so well when it comes to fuel economy is its 6 speed automatic. The 1/ ton chevy's and fords have only 4 speeds. I just picked up a new delivery truck for the office its a 3/4 ton Chevy d-max that has a 6 speed allison automatic and at 77mph its not running but about 1900-2000 RPMs. The 6 speed is the key to better mileage, ford and Gm have both been forced to delay there 6 speed auto's yet another year do to productions limitations for GM and frame limmitations for for ford. Ford shoud have a 6 speed auto out in the next 6-10 months for the supper dutys, GM and Dodge already have theres on the market and have had for a year now.

Toyota's 5.7 will get better mileage than its 4.7 since the 4.7 has there old 4 speed auto behind it. The old Toytoa 4.7s were pretty slugish 2 from what I have read the new 5.7 flat hauls. I am on a totyota forum called http://www.tundrasolutions.com/ from time to time and some owners are reporting as high as 18 mpg with the new 5.7, where there older smaller 4.7 4 speed auto, trucks were only good for 15 at best.

Also keep in mind it has VVTI on both intake and exhaust cams so it can control the power curve, and it is using 4.300 gears and is a ULEV for emmission that is how they can get the power and MPG
