It's 2008, automobiles are around 100 plus years. We have Air Conditioning is about a standardized item. Try and find a plain Jane auto out there without it. Power steering, and auto trans are another. Every vehicle has at least a heater. Electronic gadgets as back up sensors and camera's, even heated mirrors. The 1 item lacking that should be standard on every auto made that is sold in areas that receive Freezing rain, is heated wiper arms/blades.

We had or are having another snow sleet freezing rain storm here in the Northeast. As I'm driving home with my Heated mirrors, defroster so danged hot you could fry an egg on it, I had the window open a bit. Yet low and behold, I had to reach out with my left arm, and flip the wiper away from off the windshield, so that when it slapped back, would hopefully break up the ice that froze to the wiper arm.

How safe is this, about as safe as it is talking into a little palm sized telephone. Those things are everywhere.

I am trying to figure out what I could use my uplifter switches on, I think I found the answer for 1 of them with EverBlades.

The Everblades may do the trick. I hope you don't have to replace them often. The replacements could break the bank.
