Went out and upgraded trailers this weekend. Sold the ol' harbor frieght 4x8 and got a 6x8 heavy duty. Got a pretty good deal on it. Anyways, I was looking to make it hard to steal. I know if a thief wants it, they are gonna take it. I just want to make mine a harder target, so they go one by. I drilled and tapped a 1/2 hole in the frame. I added a 1/2 eye bolt to the frame. (I wanted to weld a grade 80 chain link to it, but I can't weld) I used 2 U-shaped locks to go through the eye bolt and the tire. So know you can't roll the trailer. You are gonna have to carry it (it weighs 400lbs) and used a coupler lock also. I used U-shaped locks on both tires. Here are the pics. Click on them for larger views. I know they also sell the boots that police use for parking ticket violators. Look up denver boot, or wheel boot and you can find them. Some people have modified these for use on atv's. I think you could make one fairly easy for an atv.

The pics are here

Shoot by I can weld that for ya. Trouble with doing stuff like that is the thief will make you wish they had taken it. If they can't have it they will damage it so no one will want it. You are better off paying your insurance and not worry about it.

Stupid question time yet again...

Why not put your D lock over the torsion bar arm, verses going through that little eyebolt???

My security is similar to Rockbanger's except I have two Akitas. I guarantee if you invade their space you will get a good licking.

I run a Cryptonite cable through the wheel and frame. or remove one wheel and keep it in the truck.
On our new TT I use a Trimax coupler lock and run crypto cable through the wheels with one of those round shackle locks.

90% of it is a visual deterrent they will move to the unlocked trailer most of the time. The cable locks are hard to cut as the strands of wire tend to flatten and not cut like chain links.

My trailer security is also similar to williec403 and Rockbangers except instead of a licking watchdog it's my very nosy 82 year old widow lady neighbor. Nothing goes on in that neighborhood that she doesn't know about.

However, I do keep a coupler lock and a cable and padlock that I run through the wheel around the trailer axle. I use them when I am out riding in public areas.
