My wife and I each have a Quad. I was thinking about selling both of them and investing in an X2 because I no longer have a flatbed truck to haul them when pulling my trailer. I have kinda sorta looked at a truck rack where you can haul 2 quads side-by-side above the bed. The height for loading scares me some.

So here's the questions. Do you or have you had or used one? Hate it, like it? Pros, Con. Coments? Fill me in please with the good bad or ugly.

Very good topic.... We have two Bomb Max's and have carried several different ways over the last couple of years. The first link is to my F-350 with a custom rack (like you are looking at) with Bombs side to side. They are easier to load and unload since can drive up or down either way. Makes loading/unloading on a tight road nice to do either side. Pro's.. Can tow a trailer behind and also drive to an area to unload with or without the trailer. If go this route, don't buy ramps any shorter than 10' long. I had 8' ramps at first and pretty scary ride going up and down. Finally bought a pair of 6' folding (12' open) and they are not bad to load and unload from atop the 60" platform. This works well. Con's.... Must have good springs on the back to carry the extra weight. I recommend a 1 ton dually to handle the raised weight on the bad. We have traveled lots of places with this setup...
January we decided to try a Toy Hauler. We sold our Airstream and bought a 38' X-Aire. We love the unit... This allows for traveling with ATV's inside which is really nice. I also built some stops for the ATV's to ride on the bed when we are not hooked up to the fifth wheel. This is kind of best of both worlds... So far we are very pleased with this current setup... I was using a GMC Dually flatbed to pull our TT. I liked the flatbed cause I could load on one side and unload off of the other side. I wanted a toyhauler but the wife said "I am not going to have gasoline in my trailer." LOL. I will be pulling my my new trailer with a 2005 Dodge Turbo Diesel with DRT so I think it will handle it OK.

Did you ever have any type of issues with the rack setup other than the ramps?

Tell the wife that the safety of a Toy Hauler and carrying gas is safer than a car or truck she is driving. The fuel tank and generator tank (2 tanks) are located below the garage area in the rear behind the trailer wheels. There is a air tight wall between the living area and the garage. They have been carrying gas for generators forever...
That being said...
I find carrying the ramps the biggest hassle. I built a carrier for the ramp between the ATV's on the 350 rack. If you are going to one two seater, then you will have plenty of room for the racks. I assume you are not towing a fifth wheel. It gets a little more problem if it is a fifth wheel. Storing them would have to be foward of the fifth wheel trailer.... If tag along the other issue is make sure you have adequate clearance between the rear ATV and the front of your trailer. If you have two ATV's turned side to side, it fills up a 8' bed and will hand over if full size ATV's like the two Bombs I have. I turned to sharp and took out a window in the front of my Airstream. The safety rail the wife insisted on is what got the window. Besides that, your one ton Dodge should handle the high center of gravity by the bike being so high. I think it is more hassle than towing a ATV trailer but is nice because you can drive more places without the trailer...

I've got one of the "Bulldog" atv racks and love it. My F350 long bed dully pulls a 31'tt w/ the two Honda's on the rack. We've made two trips to Colorado and love the rack. We park the tt and haul the bikes to where ever we need to download. I definately recommend you get the folding aluminum racks, store nicely under the bikes, weigh less, and the ride up/down is not that bad. My truck has air bags to help carry the weight. A lot of the places we ride you can not ride to the trails from camp, the rack solves that problem.

My Neighbor has a truck rack he built. Both quads sit facing sideways and you load on the side of the truck. I think it works great. Although he built longer racks and he still had his quad flip over backwards on him when the engine brake kicked in. I have not seen him use it since he just takes one in the back of the truck. the added height is a safety concern but if you pull a camp trailer it is a viable solution

Has anyone used this one?

Deolman a couple people we camp with have racks similar to that one, it's a well made rack. The only thing I don't like is it only a rear load. I have a self built side load that works well in the event that you need to unload to go find where you thought everyone else was going to be camping. A few years when the kids were younger and at home I needed to carry three ATV's I built this rack that served it's purpose but talk about nerves when loading it.

I have since cut it up and built my current side load that I like much better. I bought set of 8ft ramps and extended them with a fold up section to just over ten feet. The angle to get up on a side load with ten foot ramps is the same as loading into the bed with 8 foot ramps.

The Bull Dog system I have seen a few of is also a high quality rack, if you choose it you will not be unhappy with it.

Boy, I can only imagine the fun of loading a quad that high. One of the reasons I picked this rack is because they say it can be either be a rear or a side load. I was hauling my quads before on a flat bed that I could load/off-load from either side and enjoyed the benefits. I am sure I will set it up as a side load if it will clear the dually hips.
