Not much info, just wanting to see if anyone has a possible solution.

This guy has a Ford turbo diesel, 220k+ miles. Runs okey untill it gets under a load, and the accelerator is pegged. Then it falls on its face and emits much smoke. He claims it started all of a sudden. Sounds turbo to me, but he claims it has decent power until the pedal is floored.

Know this isn't much info, just sorta brainstorming. Don't think its a commonrail vehicle.

your probably right
lots of black smoke=over fuel or lack of air.
he might check his air filter and you didnt say what year so this is a guess but ford has had trouble with crank position sensors.

A crank sensor is an unlikely cause. They most generally cause a stalling condition that is rather random.

To be most helpful we'd need to know what specific engine your referring to. I'm going to assume the 6.0 and go from there. A sticking turbo will indeed cause the symptoms and can start and stop at any given time. There are specific checks to see if the VGT is operating correctly.

Another possibility is a plugged or sticking EGR valve, again very common in vehicles that don't get quality fuel, same reason turbos stick.

Of course the 6.0 is also a MAF design and if someone recently added or re-oil an aftermarket K&N type air filter that oil could have contaminated the MAF sensor causing such symptoms.

I'd say we need some more specific information in order to point you in the right direction. Either way I can assure you the best solution is to head to the nearest competent Ford dealer and get things squared away.

Thanks guys, like said, I really don't know much about the rig, but I like the stuck turbo thing. Don't think I've ever heard of that. Heard of burnt up turbos because of overfueling, seals going out, vanes being burnt etc. Will pass the info on.
