Hi
we currently have a discussion on the increasing car tax for trucks and SUV in europe. e.g. in Germany we pay for a 3000ccm 4wheeler diesel about US$ 700.
how much do you pay yearly and on what is the rate based (ccm or weight)?
CO² emission control will make life hard for 4x4.
regards
werner

Thanks Guys,
sounds like the average is about $50 a year(what I got from other replies), except California, the Swiss of the 50 states. And your registration fee for ATV is a Gods Blessing.
For my SP800 I pay yearly $ 262,00.
Old diesel trucks original, without any catalyst are very expensive.
A friend has an old Toyota HDJ80 4200ccm. He had to pay $2080 before he installed a cat. with the cat now he only pays $ 873.
In Belgium it is even worse, that same car is $ 2700.
Our current rates are based on some emission-classes. they range from $20 to $48 per 100ccm and per year for diesel engines.
1 gallon of diesel is $ 5,30. petrol is $ 6,00.
at least 95% of 4x4 are diesel.

How about Canada? anybody from there?
best regards
werner

Might be worng but--a liter is more(size) then a gallon I think, your diesel is cheaper then our gasoline-thats how it should be-and your right, our nation is held hostage to CA. What those fools leglislate effects us all to a certain extent(IMHO)-NOT ALL CALIFORNIANS ARE NUT CASES-and the US is really missing the mark by not addressing diesel like Europe and the rest of the world is. I'm convienced there is a conspiercy out there. Twenty five years ago, one could buy a VW diesel Rabbit that could and would get 50 MPG. Noisey little buggers, but they were cheap to run. Seems like since then with the exception of pu tks, there just hasn't been the development in diesel rigs. I believe because as the diesel was originaly designed, they will run on fuel that is not petrol based.

Actually a liter is right at 33.8 ounces which is just slightly more than a quart, or 1 gallon is 3.78 liters.

Sorry I missed your question Cajun.

CCM vs weight. That is engine size vs the weight of the vehicle.

We in Missiouri pay taxes based on the year of our cars over in Kansas when I lived there it was based on the wieght of the car and in Iowa when I lived there it was based on displacement size of the engine. Not for sure if those states sill use that as a criteria for taxing them or not. Its been over 33 years since I moved from Kansas and 45 years for Iowa.

Thanks Rockbanger. I got the kilometer thing figured out, but liquid measurements and land measurements, and weights are still sort of fuzzy. Like acres and hectacres? I got Austrailian system of weights figured (stones) but that sort of useless info doesn't do me much good unless I happen to go back there of course.

Registration here in KY per year depends on the taxable book value of your vehicle, don't know where that value comes from but it is lower than most cars wholesale value. My 97 grand prix costs me about $30 to register last year, haven't gotten my registration for this year but it should be cheaper since it is a year older now.
