Our yellow lab of 12 years we had put down this weekend. He had several large tumors and was in pain alot. The vet that put him down was trying to get my wife and I to put Chance on pain pills. They said that it should help him. Chancy was having trouble walking and could not climb steps. His last day was spent with us on a camping trip. He cried all night. So the next day we took him in. My wife and son went in with him as they put him to sleep. Our other dog, Red, is lost with out Chancy. Even though they are not from the same family of dogs. They grew up with each other for 11 years. We got Chancy as a pup and then got Red from the pound so that Chancy could have some one to play with.

So camping this weekend was not very good. Then when we got home it felt empty. So now Red is getting spoiled. I do miss Chancy.

my beloved black lab was poisoned on 2/14/07... i rushed home to find her flopping around on the ground...took her to the vet where she died a couple hours later.....the dirty bastards would not let me be with her as she died....she was only 4 years old. my neighbor had his two dogs poisoned that day also...he lost a choclat lab and a 14 year old golden retriever.....it was a very sad time.... i have since moved on and got 2 male chocolat labs...twice the fun....twice the chewing.....twice the eating...twice the fan

Sorry for your loss T Wolf.

We are facing just what you have in the next few months. Our beloved, Kola (Blue Heeler) has gone blind and doesn't get around very well. She has given us 12 years of love and devotion. I just can't seem to take her to the vet yet for her final trip. The right time will come.

Kaye

P.S. Kola has ridden behind Bob on his ATV for 5 years now. She wears doggie goggles and a scarf. Many people have taken stopped us to take her picture. These dogs become family.

Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge story
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.

The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together

Desert Hawk - thanks for sharing the Rainbow Bridge. It sure brought tears to my eyes as I'm sure it did to others to love their pet.

I know how you feel. I had a female Yorkie named Sonny that I put down 3 years ago. She had an annurism and we nursed her back to health for about a year. She took a turn for the worse and went blind and couldn't hardly walk. It got to the point of where we had to had feed her. It took me over 2 weeks to get the courage up to do it. Just before he gave her the shot she looked up at me like she knew what was fixing to happen. I cried like a baby for a week after that. She was the best dog I ever had. All she ever wanted was a lap to crawl up in and somebody to play with. Now I have 2 more and it is gonna be double the pain now.
