One of my customers had a Cessna 206, big single engine plane, he and 5 other passengers, his family, was sitting at the end of the runway doing a runup, then all of the sudden a car darted out in front of them, beaners jumped out and pointed guns and stole his plane leaving him and his family with NOTHING as far as ID or $ goes. They pushed the car off the runway and litterly blew it up. It took so much hoopla for him and his family to get back on this side of the border. Even had to get local Reps and senators to pull strings for him just so he could go home..
MORAL of the story.....stay out of Mexico.

That made the news didn't it?? JSC?? Or I read about it somewhere. The family had vacationed there for years, had helped with schools and the like, and got paid back that way. No good deed goes unpunished--

Hobbles--thats a great story, and must be some fantastic memories. Heck-'96 ain't that long ago-is it??

Sure did...it WAS a beautiful aircraft that he was very fond of. His insurance company broke it off in him and he didnt get what it was worth...but afterall it is an insurance company.

We even went as far as shoehorning a washer/dryer in it so he could donate it to a school there. They have been going there for about the past 10-12 years and never had one ounce of trouble out of the locals. Not sure if he will be going back.

Mornin Boys,
I do believe drugs has changed and ruined their country and it's working on ours. Even in Mexico the old ways are gone, The saddle makers down there are now junk when they used to be top notch. I don't think I would go down there any more either, and that's a shame. The man that lost his plane when he was tryin to help the locals is a shame. I bet he USED to like going there too. We used to do little things for them when we would go and it was highly appreciated in the old days. We had the loud mouth Americans that would go there and they would be treated one way and you had other Americans go down there and just be friendly and normal and they would bend over backwards for us. I don't know bout this new generation,, (I heard that some where before, I think back in the 60's) Yep, times, they are a-changin.

Appreciate the reality dosages, regarding Mexico.

My perception of Mexico (like most of my perceptions, I know), lie rooted in the past; memories of my misspent youth.

I've traveled from Brownsville, TX/Matamoros to the Guatemalan border; and--up the west coast, Mazatlan to Nogales, AZ . . . that was then, this is now . . . as hobbles reminisces, a most pleasant experience.

I'd hope, staying away from the drug-and-people-smuggling routes and nodes would improve chances for survival in Mexico today, but . . . maybe I wouldn't want to vacation on the Gaza Strip right now, either . . .

Sad, sad, because--in the PAST, the land and the people of Mexico were most agreeable to us gringoes . . .

I have been to a few different country's in my lifetime, been to most of our states to, and all in all people are the same. You got the good and bad. One time in a border town 3 of us walked into a Mexican restaurant and made our order. As the man went to get our cerveza 2 old ladies walked it with a group of young kids. The 2 ladies were tryin to put 2 tables together so they all could sit together. I seen this and got up and moved the tables for them. They smiled and nodded at me and I did the same. The man came with our cerveza and sat the other 2's down and came up to me and put the glass down, opened my beer and poured it for me, nodded and walked away. They are a proud and friendly people. I think people treat you as you treat them. I will always miss the old days, But,, I will remember them.
