Last friday night, my stepson (sophomore in HS) was playing football. Keep in mind he plays on a 8 man team and there was a total of 11 guys suited up last week, they have lost 4 to injury so far.

Anyway at the beginning of the 3rd quarter, he was in on a tackle and on his way back to the line, he is bent over rubbing his knee. He is hobbleing around the rest of game, but played every play, both offense & defense. In the locker room after game, he pulls off his pants and the blood splatters on the floor. He had a hole in his knee from a cleat. He had taken a picture of it with his phone and sent it to the wifes phone, followed by several text messages.

Wife being a nurse, cleaned it up good when he got home 2 hours later (game was 100 miles away). Next morning she said they may be going to hospital, depended on how it looked. Anyway, they ended up in the hospital last saturday morning and the doc took X-rays, is knee cap has a chip missing, took 11 stitches (4 inside 7 outside) to get him back together. He is wanting to play tomorrow night. I think the doc has him convinced to hold off this week.

John, I will Pray for you sons recovery and that no futher issues will develop from this. He sounds like a great young man for giving it his all.

The doc did tell them that of all places on the knee to get a hole, this was the spot. I didn't know it, but there is actually an artery running behind your knee cap. When the wife saw all the blood that first night, it made her wonder if the artery had been nicked.

He was really hoping to play tomorrow, he knows how much the team needs him. Even though he is young, the coach has done a heck of a job. They have not won a game yet, and here in KS, in 8 man football they have the mercy rule. 45 point lead at 1/2 time or after and the game is over. Last friday made the first game this year that lasted the whole time limit.
