Cajun, your worst fear....Gustav is aimed right at Vermilion bay on the latest update.

Gotta run to 1st high school football game of the season with the kids. I'll be interested in seeing the updated model projections at 10PM central tonight when I get back.

True, but it's not going straight up Vermilion Bay. Okay, I missed the same time for the previous updates, but here is the latest data.

Now the models are starting to shift further west.... again.

So, based on the current track, it doesn't look too good for me. At noon, with a 103 degree heat index, I went out and got sandbags for my office. For the last storms, we had a lot of water getting in the lobby and it certainly didn't flood. I think the wind is pushing the water up under the door. I'm not putting my sand bags out until Sunday evening. I'm afraid someone will drive by and take them. Yeah, I have a lot of faith in my fellow man.

Hobbles, if the storm does take the track they're plotting, it's 120 miles from New Orleans. Granted it's better to be safe than sorry, but clearing out New Orleans should be postponed at least another 24 hours. Based on the current track it's headed for Cajun Country. They do have mandatory evactuations starting tomorrow in Vermilion, Iberia and St. Mary parishes to clear out those areas closest to the coast. Here's a map of the parishes (our counties) I'm talking about. Note Orleans parish is the south east section of the state.

Now this is what you don't like to see, consensus of the models sending the hurricane right to you. But... it's still a long way out.

Mornin Boys,
Ya got 2 more to watch now.
Their spaced out for steady trouble and all movin at 10 to 15 mph. I wonder what it would be like if one caught up with another? It don't look like that will happen, yet. They seem to be going west till they get to Fl.

Hobbles, Remember a while back when I told you that your pics and stories often made me homesick for my childhood home up in the hills of NE TN? Well, I'm having one of those moments right now!
