I am looking for a flat screen LCD computer monitor. I would prefer a 23 or 24 inch screen with speakers. The only things I have found are a Dell and an HP, but I don't think either had speakers built in.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I have a pair of the 24" Wide LCD's from Samung and love them. You are correct, they don't have speakers though....

Careful buying from Best Buy. If for some reason you want to take it back, they charge a restocking feel. Oh and by the way, their policy is if you start taking up too much of the salesman's time asking questions they will brush you off.

Although it has a PC input, you may not be able to fully utilize it because it most likely doesn't have drivers specifically for it. Sure, you may get an image on the screen but it may not be full screen.

I have been testing our computer equipment at work for years for our cad designers. TV monitors and Computers monitors are not alike. Granted, now days most TV monitors have HDMI or DVI connections which allow a PC to hook up. Digital TV resolution is not near as precise as computer graphics card resolution and scan rates. This is especially true on higher end graphics cards. Since we did dual screens (2-21" CRT's), flat LCD's were a blessing since these CRT's weigh 65 pounds each and take up lots of real estate. We ended on settling for 2-19" LCD's. I actually used a 32" HDTV Sharp Aquos for awhile.. It was fantastic for HDTV but is very limited to the high resolutions and higher scan rates required by high end PC cards. As Deolman mentioned, there are limited PC drivers for the HDTV monitors. My advice is to stay with a computer monitor instead of TV monitor.... One other thing, there are only a couple of manufactures in China that produce all of the LCD panels. So really an HP or Dell may have the same LCD, just different nameplate and design. In my opinion, Samsung has some great LCD Computer monitors. I have been using these for serveral years at work and have some at home. As our standard at the office, we bought AOC for years with no issues (like 2 failures out of 2000 monitors). We only started buying Dell's because of the switch to their computers...

Just a quick search. This Viewsonic is a 24 inch with speakers. I think Samsung also has larger models with speakers built in.
I agree with wanting the speakers built in to save desk space, don't need high quality sound on the pc, if I want to listen to music I'll turn on the stereo.
Keep an eye on newegg , They run these as featured specials quite a bit.

I have loved Viewsonic monitors for years and we have purchased thousands of them over the years at where I work. In fact, Viewsonic sent me to the ProBowl in Hawaii in 2001 for all we bought. But I think their quaility in CRT monitors were much better than LCDs. We started buying them and had many failures so switched over the AOC. Just something to think about....

We just threw 2 of these Viewsonic N2535W away after a less than stellar life. One lasted 16 months and the other 18 months. Both had the same problem, they just decided they didn't want to turn on anymore. I used to think Viewsonic made some good stuff, but after our experience with them and their customer service, I doubt our company will buy any new products from them. It appears to have been a somewhat common problem as our company bought around 50 of these at nearly the same time, and all that were manufactured near the beginning of 2007 came to the same demise! Dell Fp series - 24" Wide are the most reliable monitors on the market as of now ..... As much as I hate Dell - I'll give them props for getting such great monitors under their belt (you now they just put the label). Viewsonic - is just something that lost quality over the years - 5 years ago I would not imagine ordering something else ..... well, not anymore.

I purchased 2x24" W Dell FP2405 (I think) - 3 years ago. Paid like $1400 each. Since I bought them I NEVER SHUT THEM OFF .... and they work like on day one. Got the money - go for Apple monitors Smile

Thanks for the replies!

I noticed that Samsung have a 3-year warranty and Dell and HP have a 1-year. That got my attention, FWIW.

I have a Samsung Syncmaster 2232BW and it seems just fine with me. The warranty is excellent as far as lenght of time vs. the rest that are out there.

Thanks for the bargain site, Deolman. I bookmarked it.

Over the weekend, BestBuy had a sale and I bought a Samsung Syncmaste T240 and I had $115 in points. Screen is perfect size and what I was seeking, and a 3-year guarantee.

Thanks for the suggestions and help! Smile
