If you know the longitude and latitude of a location, can you enter this into Google or Virtual Earth and bring up that site?

I could not see how. Seems like you may have to pay or join for that ability.

Found this, but does not seem to be what I am seeking:
If you know the latitude and longitude for the placemark you are editing, click the View tab and enter coordinates to reposition the geographic point for the placemark. The placemark adjusts its position to the new values.

Latitude and Longitude values can be set using the following notations:

* Decimal Degrees (DDD) - In this notation, decimal precision is set in the degree coordinate. For example, 49.11675953666N.
* Degrees, Minutes, and Seconds (DMS) - In this notation, decimal precision is set in the seconds coordinate. For example, 49 7'20.06"N.
* Degrees, Minutes with Decimal Seconds (DMM) - In this notation, decimal precision is set in the minutes coordinate. For example, 49 7.0055722"N. (Here, 20.06 seconds above is divided by 3600 to get the decimal minute value for 20.06 seconds.)

Latitude and Longitude syntax is specified as follows:

* Numeric Values - Simply separate each coordinate notation with a white space and the entry will be recognized correctly. For example, you can indicate a DMS notation as: 37 24 23.3. You could indicate a DMM notation as 49 7.0055722.

You can also use the single quote mark (') for minutes and the double quote mark (") for seconds, as follows: 49 7'20.06"

Alternatively, you can use the Character Map utility in Windows to copy the degree symbol and paste it into the Latitude/Longitude input boxes. To do this, select Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools, and then click Character Map. The degree symbol with Arial font is the second entry past the registration symbol. Click on the symbol, click the Copy button and paste it into the input box.

I used Google Earth a few years ago with the GPS, or uploaded the GPS files to Google Earth. I had to pay a small fee to use this feature. My tracks or route is in a light blue, hardly noticeable. To me a TOPO program as Delorme is better. Seems for some area's Google Earth's imagery isn't there when zoomed in.

You can load GPX files into the Free GoogleEarth and view them right on their map. Also, if you convert your GPX to KML (free programs on the internet) you can load them in GoogleMaps and share like this,

GoogleMaps

If you know a little Javascript you can use the GoogleMaps API on your own website and create your own maps and overlay the KML. Like this,

I was a Bata tester when a little company called Keyhole started this application,....a few years ago Google purchased Keyhole and vastly improved their product to the presint Google Earth and the product that we all enjoy today. I have the paid subscription and at $20 per year it is a gift that I enjoy several hours a month as I take visual tours of the world from my computer chair. This IMHO is one of the best programs to ever have on your computer.

Thanks 07Stealth800 for posting your applications, it makes good use of just what the possibilities of Google Earth are and what can be enjoyed. Thumbup

Dang 07Stealth800! Very impressive. I am going to have to do some reading, now.

Stutz--for the $20, what can you do over the freebie? That is interesting.

I was reviewing some military vids from our current endeavors and wanted to Google Earth to the places where the "actions" actually occurred.

Thanks, map making is sort of my day job (mostly putting feature data online), those were just some quick things I threw together, after doing it all day it's hard to want to fool w/ it at home. You can do some really cool stuff w/ a lot of free programs out there.

Stealth, that sort of info would be great in the GPS forum. I, for one, is interested in making some custom maps up where I hunt. I'd like to plot all our trails without using my tracking memory.

Thanks, I think I might have downloaded that last year, but our IT dept had to reformat my drive, so I don't have it anymore.

I went up to the camp this weekend and realized when I went to Hawaii, I didn't reload my Louisiana topos. Sometimes I think I'm technology challenged.
