Is it possible to re-map that key to something you don't use like a ` ~ key??? You'd be able to use the on-screen keyboard found under start/programs/accessories/accessibility.

As an example @ work our keyboard doesn't have the keys F13 through F17. So we use shortcuts or remapped keys. Like for F14 we hit Ctrl+Alt+F4. The option we use to access or change the keys, I did not find on XP Pro, or I was looking in the wrong place.

Since you are using a Dell look for the service tag and go to Dell's website and home/ home office then navigate to the support tab. go to warranty information. if you are not sure about the warranty status click warranty status and enter the service tag. if it is under warranty Dell should cover a new one if not back up one page and click parts and upgrades. it should keep your service tag information and you can find your keyboard there and order it. or just call dell and tell them what is happening and you can order from them. I can't see it costing more than $50 bucks but in the immortal words of comedian Tim Wilson "I could be Wrong"

Good Luck

A similar problem (malfunctioning key on keyboards) occurred at the White House as President George W. Bush was inaugurated; in that case, the "W" keys became inoperable . . .

If its still under warranty, Dell should repair it. If its not, Laptop keyboards usually run between $90 and $150 aftermarket which is probably less than going to manufacturer.
Check out here or here or google laptop keyboards. Normally keyboards can be replaced by popping a small cover above the keyboard and removing a pair of small screws and the keyboard will connect with a "ribbon" cable. Some will also have a screw into the keyboard from the bottom side, especially on laptops 15" and larger with a full size keyboard.

Thanks for the replies. I did not even think of Ebay. I will search all of the provided info and links, though.

Looks like thats it. I haven't worked on Dell's, but those directions appear to be correct. You'll only have to go through step 6 on his instructions and then reverse the order to install the new one. The ribbon cable should have a small bar lock on it to hold it in place, Just use a small screw driver to release it on both sides of the cable and be sure you have the ribbon cable seated fully and snap it back down.
