Hey Hobbles

I found the SP3 Download Here. SP3 for XP
I have not loaded it yet but I probably will today some time.

After looking at that again closer It is just the overview for SP3 I will have to see why the download isn't there.

Looks like a compatibility issue that is holding back the release.

Microsoft has just released SP3 and I have downloaded both Annie's and mine and our XPs are up todate,...so looks like it is working to day.

Also an interesting tip for you computer affectionatos is a free system management sight called Belarc The Belarc Advisory builds a detailed profile of your installed software and hardware, missing Microsoft hotfixes, anti-virus status, CIS (Center for Internet Security) benchmarks, and displays the results in your Web browser. All of your PC profile information is kept private on your PC and is not sent to any web server. You can keep tract of EVERY THING on your computer. Try it you will like it. 2thumbs

You can download SP3 CD ISO Image Here
544.9MB IT takes awhile it is also available Here 342.9MB or it is supposed to be available through Windows update and it is I just checked. As with any Microsoft service pack sometimes things don't work that used to so install with care. usually that old program you really like from windows 95 is the one that won't work. Mad

Thanks for the tip. I have been usin the Belarc Advisor for some time now and I followed your link and found out it's an up dated version. I'm using ver 6.1f. Yours is 7.2. I guess I'll up date..
I'll check on the sp3 also...

I have found that some programs, like Print Artist, can be loaded in XP by going into the program and clicking on the exe file. But I can not make it work by coping the exe file to the desk top or by putting it in the program files. Kinda like the back door. But then there are programs like the old Photo Delux that will just not work no matter how you do it. As for the "make program compatible" that XP has in it I haven't found that to work as good as I think it should.
Thanks for the SP3 link, I'm

I just read on the first link you sent that it says for 1 computer download to use the Windows Update link. It said it was a smaller version. I wonder if stutzismydog got it from the windows update? Hmmmm. Some times updates worry me. I have had programs that had so many updated that they don't work as good as when they were first made, Then they go out of business. Qemm9 was one and First Aid was another.

Riverrat70, I believe the second link you have pointed to is a debug version of the Windows XP Service Pack 3. I think the link most people would prefer is here.

On the link you posted is where I found that is says. (Third paragraph under the download)

"DO NOT CLICK DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE UPDATING JUST ONE COMPUTER: A smaller, more appropriate download is now available on Windows Update. The best way to ensure you get Windows XP Service Pack 3 is by turning on the Automatic Updates feature in Windows XP. You can use our step-by-step instructions or, if you prefer, let us do it for you."
You can use this one tho.

Back at you Hobbles.

The problem with updates for me is I have a half dozen PCs I take care of for family members. The other problem with doing it with updates is when a PC crashes. Having a CD with SP3 on it at that time will save a lot of updating over the internet. I have also in the past on rare occasions seen a bad thing happen while trying to do a update to prevent it.

Deolman - Thanks I was thinking I put the right link in but i noticed it was trying to debug when I tried to load.

I just forgot to come back and change the link.

This service pack looks like it is just a compilation of the umpteen billion updates MS has come up with since SP2. It has not effected anything here at work (yet). the only real change I have noticed as of yet is the remote desktop application changed a little. could be others but the changes are pretty subtle.

I've been holding off on this Service Pack for a while, although I've talked to a couple of guys at work that have it installed at home with no problems, but mine are all up to date on all the updates otherwise. Here's the link to microsoft's technet forum for issues with SP3 if anybody's interested in reading about issues others are having.

Take it with a grain of salt, as nobody really knows what they've done with their pc's before applying the service pack. A lot of them seem to have been running the pre-release versions of their pc's and the final seem's to conflict with the earlier version's.

As Hobbles would say:

Good Mornin' people

I just installed SP3 on this PC. 1 down and 4 to go. It has gone without problems so far. I just can't see anything different yet in operations. Time will tell though. I would have loaded it earlier but I have dial-up so I had to wait for my kid to download it (SP3) for me. (LOL) I would like to say "thank you" to stutzismydog for introducing me to Belarc. I am impressed! I had no idea such a tool was available. I was layed off in November and it is amazing the amount of information that has tried to pass me by since then then. I am about ready to give up, retire and say to he!! with it all. Good thing I have a bunch of friends here to keep me straight!
