Hey tnmule!
Congrats! Nice machine.2thumbs I'm sure you will have no regrets. Is that a center headlight? My 450 is red and I wasn't sure how I'd like it, but it has grown on me since.
Have fun!

Get out there!

Thanks Traildust and Voodoo. Yeah the 700 has the center headlight and it is nice and bright. I got the cv guards and the rear bumper at the dealer. Probably paid a little more but it all fit nicely.

Congrats tnmule! I'm sure that you'll enjoy your new quad for many years to come.

I'm fairly sure you know this already, but make sure you replace the stock air filter with a Twin Air filter or a UNI filter. The stock air filter can let abrasives enter the engine and cause scoring on the cylinder walls.

Hey Voodoo, I would be very interested to hear how the VDI box performs. I was reading about it yesterday. It might be the only performance mod you need!! It sounds like the VDI box is set up for a stock KQ700. Get the performance boost you want without shelling out more $$$ for an aftermarket pipe. I've been looking at pipes, Yoshimira, BUB, LRD, HMF. Don't want to be too loud and annoying.

Hey Sbebout, don't forget to give him the link to get rid of the rev limiter so he can really enjoy his new toy. I looked briefly for it, but I'm sure an expert such as yourself will know exactly where it's at and how it's done! Don't make him suffer as others have done!

I know you posted a couple months ago, but what can I say, I'm a little slow. I also have a '07 KQ 700, (black, no mods yet) and I love it. Other than the rev limiter, to me it is an awesome machine. I have yet to modify my rev limiter because I'm not sure how it would affect the warranty. I mostly ride in the mountains, as high as 13000 ft, and other than the ignition recall, it's been flawless. This winter I've been having fun pushing snow (my neighbors seem to enjoy it as well, as I now "voluntarily" have about seven drives to clear, as well as the sidewalks throughout the neighborhood). Can't wait to hit the trails again in spring, maybe some this winter. Well, happy trails to you and I hope you are enjoying the KQ! As singer Tom Petty says, it's good to be king!

To eliminate the forward rev limiter when in diff lock, you need to find the red/green wire, located at pin 15 on the ECU connector, and cut it. (Alternately you can just use a tool and release the pin 15 connector in the edge connector plug so that it can be returned to stock appearance for servicing at a dealership with them none the wiser.) If you cut, cut it far enough away from the connector that if in the future you would like to reconnect it, (who knows why) you have enough to do that. I just reached as far into the wire loom cover as I could and snipped the wire. It looks just fine. Can't tell.

Snipping the Red/Green wire at ECU pin 15 keeps the diff-lock signal from reaching the ECU. The front diff grounds this wire when diff lock engages. The ECU uses this ground signal to severely limit engine power until you hold the override button down with your left thumb. Even with the button depressed the diff lock limiter prevents full power application when you need it most. This modification allows full power to the locked front diff as well as the rear drive when in 'Lock'.

This does not overstress the drive system, since it gets full power in all situations except lock. The only reason Suzuki does the limiter is because it is harder to steer in Lock and Suzuki limits the speed of the ATV when locked so that you don't get in a wreck and sue them.
They don't care that the limiter also makes locked operating mode almost useless.
The cure is as easy as one snip.

Thanks for the info on defeating the rev limiter. I have an 07 KQ 450 and I'm having the same problem. Is the 450 wiring the same? If so, how do you identify pin #15? Thanks for your help.

I would make sure the wire is the same color and if it was I would snip it far enough back that you could reconnect it with a butt-splice if it doesn't work. I did this mod and the machine came alive in the snow.
