The King does take some gas to get going when you are in a tough place. Which to me is fine. Alot of snap could get you in trouble. From what I hear the VDI can fix the "bog". The new "750" is supposedly bog free. But from what riding I have done the bog is fine, and the power comes in and you can go up the obstacle. I use the extra 2 seconds to access the situation and then go.
The thing I don't understand is if people want speed why not go with a sport quad? A banshee or KFX should have plenty of speed. Plus I have heard of guys putting NOS on King's. I have yet to get on any utility quad that has the snap of my boys yamaha blaster (200 cc).
You want a wheelie? get a sport bike. What's the point? If you want to wheelie a King Put it in low give it small bit of gas, let the springs compress and gun the gas while pulling back. Don't forget to adjust the rear shocks to a stiffer setting so the rear shocks don't compress. It should wheelie, unless you have extra weight on it. I have yet to be in a spot where a wheelie is going to help me in the mountains. I have done wheelies in the street acting like an ass in front of the neighbors.
I like the way my KQ rides I feel comfortable and nothing is going to stop me. Kinda like a mini tank. I think that once you get above 700cc all machines are going to be decent. I try and ride everyone's quad. Brute Force's, Grizzlies, and 700 sportsman. As far as honda's I am not to impressed with the mid sized quads, but I have never tried a 700 honda. I knkow that I pushed a honda alot one time. Can't say I liked that, but I think that quad was out of it's league. Most big bores are all decent, not one felt like it had power to ripe out of my hands. I think if you want power like that, get a 2 stroke and go to the sand dunes.
Hell, maybe it's just me.

We want one machine that can do everything of course. I want enough snap and power to be able to tackle any trail. That can mean having enough power to pull the front wheels up to clear an obstacle. I also like to have that snap to climb a tall hill when there is little or no runway and you have to hit it from a dead stop at the bottom.

You want the wheels to come up while your moving to clear an obstacle get you a sporty. They need it.

A 4x4 will clear an obstacle with traction. I believe the big bore machines aren't gonna bog on you climbing steep hills with an auto tranny.

I am looking for a sport utility that suites my needs. I don't need you telling me what I need to get bub. My diesel truck has a huge turbo and makes 760 lb ft of torque it can pull a Mustang GT. With your logic I should have bought a corvette. I wanted a high powered utility and that is what I got. A capable 4wd 3/4 ton hauler that can run like a bat out of hell when I want to. My next atv will do the same, climb like a goat and run down 450's Wink

Okay, duly noted. Didn't mean to come off as telling you what to get just what my impression of capabilities are owning both types of rides.

If you are at the bottom of a hill, I would put the quad in 4x4, (w/diff lock engaged on King Quad) and then go. I have been stuck on hills, just this weekend, and all I had to do is push the button and flick the lever and away I went.
Just curious, how much riding experience do you have? I know I have read one of your posts that said you were borrowing a friends.
Have you ever owned atv's before? Or are you basing your comparrisions to cars, trucks and motorcycles?

There's just something about that trail. I've gone over backward twice on a sporty on that trail and now once on a utility quad.

I think I better get me a tricycle and stick to riding sidewalks. Big Grin

I am 30yrs old and have ridden since age 4 I have raced BMX, MX, quads, Corvettes, Lightning trucks, drag raced, road raced, cross country raced.
That is why I want a bike to be capable of about anything. I push the raw limits of anything I operate.
Last year in Colorado our Pearl Pass trail was snow blocked and I had to ride my Rincon straight down the side of the mountain to get to the other side. So I could winch the rest of the group across the snow block. I don't know a handful of riders that could have made that decent without serious injury. I tipped over the edge and had to modulate the rear brake, front brake and steer over boulders on my long long way down. It was a 40mph brakes locked thrill ride. I assure you I am a riding SOB. I have also seen too many guys flip over backwards from climbing stuff too slowly between the incline and the torque bringing it over on them. I ride with a balance of tact and momentum so I can focus on steering and coasting up a hill rather than risking going too slow and torquing over backwards. I am talking about stuff too steep to creep up granny style. I know you guys know what I am talking about. Like those straight up climbs with kickouts on the top. You have to nail it and build speed and cut the throttle as you clear the top so the front end will nose over and land on the top. A little speed can save your butt more often than not. I want a machine that will build speed fast enough I can clear a washout or climb a steep hill with minimal risk of injury. There are several times trail riding I have been going fast and come up on a washout. Sitting on the back end, pin it and pull on the bars were the only way to make it across. You have to do that a lot at the sand dunes when you are riding along and come up on a surprise blowout or drop side of a dune. If you can't get the front end up you are going to endo or eat bars.

Nah, the Bomb is an unreliable heap IMO. Their power is not easily modulated from my experience and most professional reviews. This months ATV Magazine reviewed all the big bores and they rated the Bomb 3rd I believe. They said it was harsh and hard to ride on technical stuff. They gave BF750 the #1 spot. The pro's said the BF was the most enjoyable power house they rode. They gave the Cat 950 the LAST spot.

Hey TX - becarefull what you wish for .....I made the "mistake" to open a conversation in General discusions about ATV of the year and all the Polaris fans were "insulted" by the fact that ATV Mag printed such a crappy article .... read yourself if you don;t believe .... BF is an exceptional machine in terms of power, got some bad things about locker and belt but otherwise is awesome. You want power - get that. Unless you want that overpriced, crappy 1000cc AC

I would never buy a Cat or any American ATV. Japanese is the only reliable machine in my opinion. Which is pretty mechanically and technically supported. Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda are all reliable bikes IMO. Those the three I am willing to chose from. The only V twin in the bunch is the Brute. I am a trail rider so I am not worried about tearing up the bike. I think when folks tear them up they are in deep water, have big tires etc.. I haven't seen a solid trend of people tearing up stock well maintained bikes. Even the editors comment about the dated rattling PooPoo chassis's, lol!

I can see why Polaris guys get pissy about those reviews. I just recently bought a Sportsman. I really wanted to get the King Quad, but due to price and much better financing I went with the Polaris. Saved me a TON of money over buying the King. I fully expected to be dissappointed, since the Polaris always gets such crappy reviews, but to my suprise it's an awesome quad.

My brother has an 05 750 Brute Force, and I've rode both quads alot. The ONLY thing I like better about the Brute Force is the power and transmission. The Polaris definately handles and rides better. The 4 wheel drive system works much better. The extra storage and better racks are nice. The factory brush guards/skidplates are a TON better on the Polaris too. The brute force ones are all pretty much destroyed after a couple years of woods riding. It has never been crashed.

PS this is comming from a pretty die hard Suzuki man. I wouldn't trade any of them for my Zilla. Big Grin

Here read the topic see if you can find all the whining about POLARIS and the rating please point it out. There wasn't a post one that was from a POLARIS rider saying the rating were wrong, other than my questing that CAT was last as usual. Seems that some have an inferiority complex and have a hard time dealing with it. Shrug
