Our Suzuki King Quad 700s has the rear breaks inside the rear differential (some Kawasikies have the same) this complicates the type of lubrication oil requirements for "Wet Break" compatable oil to a special requirement.

The Suzuki shop manual specifies Mobil Fluid 424 and a look at Mobile Fluid 424 web page will give more information about recomended applications and other manufactors required specifications. Look at the specifications on your purchase and see if it is "WET BRAKE" compatable and matches up with the Mobile 424 requirements.

I just recently purchased for $18 a 2 gallon (7.57 Litter) container of *PREMIUM UNIVERSAL TRACTOR TRANS/HYDRAULIC FLUID* from a local store "Tractor Supply". Compairing the specifications on the lable I found that Caterpillar TO-2, Allison C-2,C-3 & C-3,and Volvo (VCE)VME WB 101 are all on the container and are listed on the Mobil 424 recomendations,....The lable also stated "WET BRAKE" compatable so I think that this will work in the rear differential of our KQs.

I think you are right. I think tractors have wet brakes. Shrug Maybe Farmr123 can clarify on this.

The big road graders have multiplate wet brakes, as do Caterpillar crawler tractors. D9-D10 etc.
The wet brake is considered superior because it lives in an uncontaminated environment where its heat is dissipated into the oil.

While waiting to pick up the new KQ450 yesterday morning, I went to the dealer's part dept. and asked for all the fluids/filters needed for the 1st service. Here's what the service guy gave me:

Got 2 oil filters...Zuki branded standard issue P/no. 16510-03G00-X07
Front differential lube: Copied this from label: KAWASAKI Gear Oil with Limited Slip Additive. SAE 80w90. API service classification GL-5, GL-4 (Hypoid).
Rear Differential: Zuki branded SAE 10W-40 Engine Oil. 'Meets or exceeds API SF/SG; SH/SJ with JASO MA'.
Engine Oil: I will go with AMSOIL at 1st oil change. Will likely change over to 100% AMSOIL products by 2-3rd fluid change. (just because it make me feel warm and fuzzy; no HARD data to justify).

Hmmmm....Front diff fluid looks OK, but sure am curious about his choice for rear diffy.
Fortunately, I have a little time to figure out if this is truly acceptable. I won't put that 10W-40 into the rearend until I learn more.

Have just sent an email to AMSOIL (I am a preferred customer) requesting a comprehensive list of all fluid and filter cross references to their products. Will post reply here. Amazing....Amsoil does not have the cross references posted of this KQ450...if it's there, I couldn't find it.

Any further wisdom on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Highlifter.com

Check out Highlifter discussion above. AMSOIL Hydraulic fluid seems to be a good fit. That would work GREAT for me since I already have a 5 gal pail of it out in the shop for my Kubota tractor.

Looking forward to seeing if Amsoil.com concurs.

I don't know..I guess I don't get it, I understand what you guys are trying to do, but I do it differently. The tranny fluid from BRP is $16 for 16oz (I think it is) It's made by Redline. Others buy 2 gallons of tractor oil for $20 and use it. If you're a mudder and change the fluid every month...that makes sense and might be the best way to go, but I know that the tractor oil is not the same as the Redline, I change it once a year, it's what the manufacture recommends, it's good stuff, I sleep better. No guessing. Only the best for my baby. Smile

What I'm trying to say is why take a chance on a $6K - $9K quad????

I hear what you are saying ATVer for the normal rear end differential lube oil(I don't know about BRP's). This is the first ATV that I have had that has the rear brakes in the rear differential that is also oil bathed. A good design I guess to prevent mud contamination and the oil immersed disks do dissipate heat. BUTT,.. the lubrication value of the low viscosity (SAE 10W-20)and the fact that contamination from the brake residue in the oil can't be all that good on bearing surfaces,...so I plan a regular change every (500 miles??)to make me feel better ?? I like you was brought up on 80W-90 GL5 gear lube and never gave it a second thought.

The above post of mine about TRAVELLER PREMIUM Trans/hydraulic Fluid that I purchased at *Tractor Supply* meets all the specifications of the Suzuki recommended Mobil Fluid 424,....so if that is what the engineers say they need in the Wet Break environment of the rear differential,,,then that is what they get,...even though 10W-20 sounds a little light to me. Shrug

Good points....it is a little out of the norm for us (me) people stuck in the same habits Smile

I like the idea of the wet clutch, is there anything in there to wear out that has to be replaced?
