Just bought a new (07) 450 KQ. Has about 50 miles on it now. Went to a mud park (Mud Creek in TX) and of course had to lock in the 4WD several times. At first, when I would unlock the 4WD, it would act like it was staying locked in. So, being an old 4WD person, I starting stopping and backing up to unlock it. It seemed to help at first and then it got to where it seemed just to stay locked in. Man, it's hard to steer now. Anyone out there had this problem? If so, please advise on something I can do. I'd rather fix it myself than take it to dealer.

I know where you're coming from on the dealer thing...but with something like this, I'd suggest DEALER...if somethings broke, you don't want to give them any out by saying you were in there and messed it up. CYA

Hopefully some of the KQ experts will show up here shortly and give you the simple fix.

Nice quad.....good luck!

I would buy a Grizzly with power steering. Ok had to say that. Big Grin Check the wires that plug into your front diff, they might be gunked up with mud, or got wet, put some dielectric grease in there.

Hey East Tx. I used to live right down the road from you in Mineola for awhile, fished lake Fork and Lake Holbrook all the time. I have ridden Mud Creek several times, great place to break stuff!

I agree with the dealer option. Especially if it is still under warranty. Try http://www.nyrocatv.com/forum.cgi?viewcat=4 I get alot of good info there.

I have heard of this problem, if you run them hard in 4x4 they have a weak front end. Its just what I heard from a friend....Take it to the dealer, be sure to clean it up really good before hand.

etexgrizzly,

I used to own the 450 KQ before I traded to a 700 KQ. I can honestly say I never had the problem you described. I wonder if mud in some of the electronic sensors or actuators for your 4X4 could be part of the prob. I agree with taking it in to the dealer especially if you've got warranty left. I did think at one time that my 4x4 was unlocking after I would hit the switch (one or two of the guys who post here might remember a couple of obstacles in Moab that it might have happened) I always swore I had hit the switch before going up the obstacle but it wasn't locked. I never did really figure that one out though. Shrug

Thanks everyone for the input on my problem. I guess it could have been the "mud". After I stripped the plastic off, removed all skid plates/stick stoppers, and the wheels to clean it, it seems to be working fine now. Go figure! I'll keep an eye on it as it is less than a month old. I need to go to Mena and put some real trail miles on it now. I think I still hate those MUD PARKS. Too much clean up. Thanks again everyone.
