Well my luck on the grizzly finally ran out. I make no excuses, it probably could have been avoided. First time up at lefthand canyon and we rode all the easy trails first then after a few hours we decided to try out 286A (designated as extreme). Found a few good challenges then came across a pretty nasty hill. My biggest and basically only complaint about my '08 Grizzly 700 is that the front end is way too light. I decided to head up the hill first, picked a line that should have been just fine, got basically to the very top before the front end bounced and went into a 12 O'clock wheelie that I couldnt stop and on to her back she went.

The griz flipped down the hill end over end 3 times and smashed the front end pretty bad. I wasnt going much over 10 mph. It did roll over the top of me and my helmet saved my brains, only ended up with scratches and bruises. Its going back to the dealer for an estimate tomorrow. I have insurance, not sure if it will be a total loss or not. Frame looks bent. Always make sure to wear your gear.

Any advice on this situation? Anyone been through this with or without insurance. Any input would be great, thanks!

Travis

Sorry to hear about your accident. I'm guessing that you fared okay which is more important than whatever happened to the Quad. You can always put some more of your hard earned money aside to fix or replace the Quad, but if you were hurt bad, it wouldn't necessarily be the case with you. I'm unfortunately a gambler and have yet to buy any insurance, mainly because I have always paid cash for the quads and just haven't done it. It really is a small price to pay to replace something of that value that I couldn't easily afford to replace! Well good luck with your repairs and I'm hoping that you're okay!

Sorry to hear that. There's some wicked nasty hills in Lefthand canyon.
Hope you're ok.

My father rolled his Polaris 800 last summer out at Breck he also was very lucky and not seriously injured Good thing you were wearing protective gear. He did have insurance with State Farm they took care of all the repairs with no problems he had about $2300 damage done. He did have to be taken out by the rescue team which we are really lucky to have here in Colorado. They are all volunteers, great bunch of people donations only to help in paying for there machines.

This one was also a casualty of LEFT HAND about a month ago,WIDOW MAKER, a friend of mine. Had 170 miles on it and BIG HORNS with less than 50 miles on them. Like you front end came up, went back down with enough force to make the tires bouce and that was all she wrote. He was lucky enough to get away from it with just a few bruise, he was wearing a helmet.

I guess I don't understand what paying cash for a machine and not having insurance have to do with each other. I have had many sleds and and quads, I have always paid cash. I will be buying my new "T" in a couple weeks it will be paid for when I walk out the door. I always have full coverage insurance would not be without it, have used it several times over the years. Had two stolen, had a few wrecks. For $125-$150 a year I sleep well at nite. For anyone else that is on the fence and are riding without insurance, think about it. It is almost as important as riding with a helmet.

First off I am very, very glad you are OK. second, I have older Sportsman 500s. 1 a '98 and the 2nd an '01 Both have insurance. Last year we went over Red Cone. It was my son's first time up there. Before he headed down I told him if it looked like it was going to get away from him, just jump off and let her go. No need to worry about a hunk of metal and plastic. It can be replaced, he couldn't. Believe me, I know.

First...really glad you're OK and able to laugh a bit at it. The Grizz does have a light front, do you have a winch on it? I know that helps a bit. Did your helmet fair OK? They always say replace it after an accident, be sure and claim it on your insurance claim.

I agree with Cob...after being with Progressive for a couple years with no accidents, they charged me $88. for insurance this year. I can't complain about that! I sleep better too. Cheap insurance for cheap insurance. I can't help thinking that if they ever went on a ride with us, the rates would go up considerably. Smile

Thanks for all of your kind words and concern. The funny thing is I usually get really upset if I get a scratch in my truck or swirl marks on my motorcycle. But yet even as I watched my ATV bounce end over end down a hill, being destroyed, it didnt bother me in the least because I knew it didnt kill me, and all of my family and friends wouldnt have to deal with that.

I figured its only a semi expensive arrangement of plastic and metal thats happens to be insured.

Now I just wonder weather or not it is totalled or fixable.

Helmet did great, I always wear a full face motorcycle helmet. I do have a winch on it, I have to figure out something for the front end now.

anything that you can buy, can be replaced. Your life can't. I am glad to hear you are ok. I am glad your biggest concern now is dealing with insurance and repairing your quad.
My king quad is paid for, and I have full coverage insurance on it. I have other things I want to spend it on, than replacing a quad.]

Im with you on that shawn, I shoud have been killed in a motorcycle accident in 2005. I was hit head on by a dodge ram 2500, ripped the bike in half and burst into flames. I flew clear over the bike and down the side of the truck not hitting anything but the ground at the end. I def learned then the things that are important in life. Family, friends, people....not objects.

Not sure who you have insured with. But read the policy for yourself, don't rely on agent or the insurance adjuster. Your job is get what is coming to you, there job is make that as little as possible. Make sure you know what the policy covers, as with mine it covered up to $3000 worth of accessories, that was any thing after market that was attached to quad. Tires wheels GPS and mount that were attached to handle bars. Front rear brush guards, custom seat the HEELCLICKER kit the EPI springs, my boxes. What wouldn't be covered would be like damage to a camera in the box. It all adds up and counts in the long run. The more documentation you have the better. My helmet was covered plus any riding gear that was damaged. Any thing under a year old was covered 100% any thing else was 80%.

If you have a good dealer he can make sure that machine will total, they should pay book value plus taxes. PROGRESSIVE was great to work with no complaints. My friend with the SP that I showed had a bad experience with his insurance company. Got his money or at least most of it but was almost a month and had several battles with adjuster. The new quad he picked up saturday will have PROGRESSIVE covering it. He paid for it with money that he got from the claim.

Don't forget that insurance is not only to protect you and your machine, but also someone GAWD forbid that you would run into. Or if machine came off trailer and hit someone else. Like ATVER says cheap insurance for what you get in return. Riding without insurance is no better than the uninsured motorist that run around the country with no insurance on their cars. Can you say UNINSURED MOTORIST!

For those that don't know it, you must be insured and carry pruff to ride BLACK BEAR and the trails around TELLURIDE. Look for it to spread thru the state, a good Idea I would back.

Well all I had on it was a rear quad boss box, brush guards, over fenders, and rear rack extender. All less than 8 months old. I cant seem to find my policy covering my ATV since it was added after my last renewal. Ill keep looking though.

Make sure that frame is not tweaked even just a little. If someone says it is not get a second or third opinion.

Do you know what hill caused you to roll. It looks like you were in carnage canyon. Cob showed me "the ropes". Really putting on ropes so you wont go over backwards. Here is a map so you can tell us where you where at, if you know.

Glad to hear you are alright.

If you have Progressive they usually carry some level of aftermarket on the quad with a cap value.

If you were on 286A that is lower carnage canyon.

I had a little experience with a light front end on the Grizz at Lefthand this year. Fortunately I rolled down the hill and the quad decided not to follow.

Its really hard to say from the map where we were, I can tell you that it didnt look like a great idea before I did it. I would say it had to be in the area of fireman hill. It was my first time up there, sorry guys.

G-Force did say that from time to time they do frame swaps if it is bent, if its tweaked id prefer they total it.

My insurance adjuster stated that because of the type of the vehicle it may not result in a rate increase. Any possible truth to this???

This was probably my own ignorance not knowing what I was getting into.....until I was into it. Live and learn i guess.

I have USAA insurance on it.
