Read that somewhere else yesterday. Glad he survived. I too ride alone quite often, but give the wife a map of the area I will be in including the trails I ride. Also carry cell phone and report in to her every hour or so, that way she knows all is well.

The two deaths at MudNats is still fresh in my mind right now..

One guy flipped and hit a tree.

A girl was stapped into a yamaha side by side and flipped over in the water and drowned..........

NOT GOOD...and VERY SAD..........

I had a incident last summer that is worth sharing and maybe we can learn from it..

We were riding at night on some unfamiliar trails close to my home... I mean it was pitch black..other than the quad lights..thick huge trees and tight narrow trails...I was in front came to a larger opening in the trail and decided to pull to the right side to stop for a break, BUT..before I could the the Quad stopped my right front tire found a 6 foot diamter hole about 5 feet deep and full of water...well..it was not purdy ..the quad flipped over on top of me upside down...with me ..head and all underwater.... I was helpless for about 20 seconds or so..before the other riders pulled the 800 plus pound machine on its side, so I could get above water... I can tell you it was scary as hell being trapped underwater with the 800cc on top of you..

Moral to this story...Never, Never rides Trails at Night, unless you are familiar with the Terrain and/plus never ride Alone in those situations...It could be catastrophic...

Glad you came out of it ok. Deals like this may save someone else from having learned by reading this post. We all have been places we got out of and look back after awhile and realize how lucky we were including myself.

Wow on the original post, and yikes voodoo!

even during the day it pays to get off and walk something you can't see, crested a hill on a dirt trial in my pickup years back, couldn't see over the hood cuz it went down fairly steep, so got out and walked a few feet and saw that there was a mine shaft there. 5 or 10 more feet in the truck and it would have been lights out for me, or trapped at the least.
