Just returned from making my first video with my new ultra cool schwing ding helmet camera setup. This thing is so cool even COB can handle it Smile.

RZR - Dripping Springs Trail

This is in Quartzite AZ where is is a balmy 70+ degrees. My folks winter down there and this was my first trip to visit. Quartzite has some great riding. Dripping springs is one of very few year round springs in the area and has been visited by every man and beast in the desert for centuries. Lots of petroglyphs and an old rock cabin.

It you are interested in the camera it is a V.I.O. POV.1, all digital waterproof, dust proof, COB proof. I really like it, after a day of riding in the dust I just washed it off.
Lots of info here: Helmet Camera

Compared to typical helmet cam setups thats not a bad price.

Generally you have to buy a min-dv camcorder, the bullet cam, the remote control etc. Unless you use used parts its about the same price.

I built my own top of the line setup a few years ago and it works great but is too complicated for me (and COB).

If you need help prying your wallet open COB I know a guy in the fire department. He has a jaws of life we can use. Eek

This is a lot of fun and way easy to use. I just found the perfect Ram Mount for it too.

Catfish: the "steadyness" is an optical illusion. Since the RZR is in the foreground and steady relative to the camera it actually lends stability to the scenery. While I look like I'm on a pogo stick.

The more solid the camera mounts to the RZR, the better the image. If you try to isolate it with foam or rubber it enhanced the differential in vibration and makes the problem worse.

Yeah I've looked at the motocom setup.
The problem is that it is really low resolution and only goes to 320x240.

By the time you post that to youtube and it does its thing the image has gone to crap.

Here is an example of the best you will get from the motocomm
http://www.grizzlycentral.com/movies/GEAR001.wmv
Here is the same video after youtube stomps on it.

and anothere example of what happens after youtube does its thing.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcQLOsFJKZQ

and another
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlK8Ub07PjQ&feature=related

All of that fuzzieness is caused by compression artifacts. The Motocomm stomps on the video hard, then Youtube does it again. The result is a very poor image.

I looked at several systems and they all suffered from this until the POV.1 came along.
The POV can record in 720x480 (DVD quality) and a decent bitrate of 3.2Mbits/sec. Your cable TV video on demand system is typically streaming at 3Mbits/sec. The result is very good quality to start.

Of course youtube tries to screw this up and does a fair job of making any video look bad but the POV.1 at least gives it a better quality video to start with so the damage is limited.
