The GPS is a great tool but you must use common sense. Don't get yourself in this prediciment. There is a big difference between a GPS leading you back to camp and just blindly following where it tells you to go. A backup map should always accompany a GPS.

I am here N41° 10' 54.7" W111° 58' 38.84", and I want to be here, N38° 26' 57.84" W112° 13' 49.83"!

Can relate to that. Mine wanted me to go over Tin Cup Pass to Taylor Park, when I continued on cottonwood, it wanted me to turn onto Ice mtn rd (trail) no place for a crewcab F-250, motorhome, or a little sneaker car.

Also wanted me to turn left going down to Colorado Springs from Woodland Park. There was no left to take. Eek

When you start up a road that is snow covered and getting deeper. Don't take a rocket scientist to make the decision to get the HELL out before getting stuck. DUH Pppl are their own worse enemy! ROFL

GPS is a great tool; but never leave the paved road without the most basic tools (unless you KNOW where you are going): A Map *and* a compass!

I guess besides a map and a compass a little common sense might be a big asset. BTW a small laser pointer can be seen several miles at night if they are looking for you.

These new electronic age people are becoming robots to all their gagets. They have never been forced to think for themselves as they have some man made device to do all their thinking. Stupid in means stupid out. It's only as good as the person programing it. Who do you trust? Crazy

common sense all the way. Lets see shave 40 minutes off the route I usually take to see the inlaws, in the mountains, winter time, with a infant. Here's your sign.
