I found this pic in a magazine that indicated these two new tires would be available sometime in 08'. I have no idea what the names of them are. The one on the left is the Maxis and the one on the right is the Dunlop. I kinda like the baja looking dunlop quite a bit, I might have to try those when they get them out on the market.

Anyone have any thoughts or know anything about these tires.

I kinda like the Maxxis tire.. TheDunlop look smmoth but look too much like a "street" tire... Like they would cake up easy... Good trail ridin tires for sure.. Dunlop is a good manufacturer, but for the quad I like Maxxis.

I got Maxxis on both my quads...

The tire on the left looks similar to the Good Years that Polaris used on the older Sportsmans, like from 02-04. The one on the left wouldn't offer me much in this terrain but others may like it.

It would take 50 years for Dunlop to shed the stigma of having supplied stock tires for ATV manufacturers that have proven inferior to those supplied on retail suburban wheelbarrows, and that is if they mended their ways and discontinued that practice today, which they have not.

I wouldn't throw a Dunlop tire flat on the asphalt to keep an excavator track from deforming it on a hot day, that's how bad they are.

That company has squandered it's right to be thought of as a serious tire manufacturer. No mercy, no forgiveness. Their tires are dog food.

Sounds reasonable Glenlivet. Yet one shouldn't over look the fact that Dunlop is supplying OEMs with exactly what they have requested, something that is round and black and holds air at a specified price point. Dunlop may not be a serious contender for tire upgrades with Joe Public but you can bet their coffers are full enough from OEMs. On a Dunlop replacement tire, I too will pass.

It is unfortunate that a tire mfg get the bad rap for as mentioned providing exactly what the atv mfg speced. Most of the oe dunlops are on the jap machines, which seem to have some sort of weight criteeria that they have to stay within, that the domestics do not. I have been told the jap machines still target 600 pounds as max weights for there machines, I think that is why they use the lightest weight tires they can get to hold air. Thats why they are so thin and puncture so easy. If this Dunlop is a 6 ply tire, I would have no problem with trying a set. I ride Colorado a lot, and there is really not much if any mud up there, at least not on the trails I ride in the 14ers, its mainly just rocky jeep trails. from the looks of that tread design it might make for pretty comforatable ride and nice easy steering as well. It might also make for a pretty good tire out in utah and AZ, CA. Probably not a good choice for TX,LS,MS were mud is a proment riding surface.

True, Dunlop is supplying dog food tires to spec for the buyers who want that, and you'd think they shouldn't be stigmatized for it...

But I wouldn't doubt that Hormel can produce mouth watering fine cuisine if they had a contract to do so, but they are known for 60+ years of making Spam, and I doubt they will ever get a call to cater a Presidential election victory party! Big Grin

You never know Glenlivet,....Obama just might be liken Spam and serve it at the party as a statement to the peoples Wink and Hormel stock could see a sudden increase,...Butt I don't think that I will be investing soon.

As far as tires,...I will stick with my HORNS. Big Grin

I don't fault Dunlop for meeting OEM specs. it is all about weight and they also do not want an aggressive tire that will destroy terrain, turf etc. I don't like either of those patterns. The Horns have me spoiled Bow to You
I raced 900cc superbikes on Dunlop GP 207's through the late 90's. I had supreme faith in them as did most of the other riders. Now Perelli seems to be the tire of choice for superbike.
Fact is the OEM's spec a tire to be light, easy handling/steering, and terrain friendly. I admit every after market ATV tire I have bought has been heavier, more destructive and harder to turn/handle than the stockers. I bet they make more money supplying OEM's than Maxxis and others combined for the ATV market.

I bet they make more money too..
I mean how often you replace the horns???!!?? Not very often!!!

How often people have to replace their OEM tires, IF they keep them and go with them again???

Best OEM tire I found was the TITAN 489's....
Carlisle makes them also and the carlisle version are no good IMO... Probably HALF less tread depth on them, Not near as smooth, an didnt seem as round as the TITANS...
