The real problem wth the HPGs aren't the shocks themselves, but the springs. They are way too stiff for the dampening of the HPGs. They could be a lot lighter and still give a good ride. Of course now that I have the new shocks, I find out that Crutchfield makes a spring kit FOR HPG shocks.......DUH!

I finally got a chance to test them at high speed. I took them to a Rails To Trails that allows ATVs on it. I still had them set to full soft from my low speed testing.

Once on the trail I hit a set of small whoops under a highway overpass. Not bad, it tracked straight but it was a little harsh. Then I hit a high speed dip in the trail and the machine bucked like a bronco in the rear. So much so that only the front wheels were on the ground. Needless to say, that was a little scary.

A small word on the design of the shocks. It seems that there is only one adjustment on them. That one adjustment controls the high speed compression and rebound dampening on each shock.

Well, I bumped up the compression dampening on the rears to the maximum and lo and behold, no more bucking bronco effect. I also adjusted the fronts about half way and hit the whoops again. It still tracked straight and the ride was much better. It seemed to skim over the tops. I think I'll leave the shocks where they are for now.

I finally got the gas tank cleaned out on my Outlander. I took it to the dealer because it wouldn't rev past half throttle. They vaccumed out the tank and the very next weekend it was doing it again. It turns out that the dunking I gave it in April the inlet valve on the tank let in a lot more than just water into the tank. There was black grime from the retaining pond I was in. I removed the tank, cleaned it out, rinsed it five times and let it dry. It turns out that the fuel pump prefilter was clogged and wasn't letting gas into the fuel pump. I don't so much mind the water in the tank, but the grime was the real culpret. So I removed both the inlet and outlet check valves and ran a hose from the tank up to the airbox. I drilled a hole in the airbox, ran the hose through and added a fuel filter to the hose to hold the hose in the airbox. This way if I do ever submerge it there will only be water in the tank and not mud.
