Well, I've been without my quad now for 4 weeks, the dealer seems to be as frustrated as I am getting. Talked to them today and they say that they have a lot of parts backordered from CanAm. Not really sure why it is getting so bad.

Dealer said that CanAm was splitting into 2 divisions and reorganizing, and this may be causing the delays. I don't know what is causing the delays, nor do I care, they should be taking care of their customers better.

It doesn't bother me that the quad broke...things happen, but a month to get a stator is a bit riduculous and would make me hesitate to buy another. I miss my carberated Polaris 500. Big Grin

Anyone else have any info on these part delays?

Understand the frustration. Can't really see that there is any feasible excuse for it to take a month to get parts. Might try calling anoher dealer see if they have one in stock.

I think I would do a little research and see if the part can be procurred from another dealer or parts source. If it can, I would encourage the dealer to procurr it and make you a happier customer. Odds are that somebody other than the manufacturer has what you need and maybe you just need to light the fire! Campfire

Good luck!

Maybe you need a different dealer I lost my stator last winter and had no down time. The dealer let me put a rv battery on the back rack so I could ride it.This is a old Polaris trick I used when I had a trail boss 350 and needed to winch out of a snow banks all day.The dealer that fixed had the whole job done in about a week.

I'm sure I'll have some problems but I'm also pretty sure that the parts will be available to get it fixed without waiting 3 weeks to a month. There isn't anything made by anybody that doesn't and won't have problems, I'm just perplexed that these companies expect the customer to wait all this time just to get the parts to get them fixed!

I only ride the 700 and have put over 1600 miles on it in less than a year without a hiccup. The Xplorer has 2900 miles and has yet to have a problem other than replacing the tires and chain. The Scrambler has who knows how many miles because it doesn't have a speedometer and other than chain, tires, and upgrades, it too has been a great machine. Generally how good your machine treats you depends on how well you treat it. Visual inspections, changing fluids regularly and keeping things clean go a long way!

To be honest.... I have owned both Polaris and Can Am ...the only thing I have had go wrong with the Can Am thus far is ...I am changing out the ignition system, which is covered on warranty...other than that ...both of my Outtys have been rock solid thus far....

Nobody is saying anything regarding any brands reliability other than in jest. Every brand has its good ones and its lemons as they say. I have had good luck with the 7 Polaris ATVs that we have owned. Sometimes lack of routine maintenance makes a simple problem into a major item. It just is unfortunate that ATVer and Rockon are having to wait so long for parts. That should not happen from any manufacturer and I feel for them and the frustration that occurs as you dangle helplessly at the dealer's mercy!

As for miles amd reliability, the only true comparison would be if the different brands rode the same trails at the same time. A comparison of miles of someone living in the Rocky Mountains to someone living in the Midwest would not be a very real comparison. Our trails here are all rock and not much in the smooth variety at all as comparison to the trails I rode down in Oklahoma. Doing 50 miles in a day here can be quite the accomplishment whereas when I had my ATV in Oklahoma, doing 75 miles in a day was a breeze. I would have to say that the miles on almost any ATV that spends its life out here on Colorado trails are probably close to double as hard of miles obtained elsewhere. That is not saying that there aren't hard miles elsewhere, but when our average speed runs between 5 and 10 MPH over the course of most ATVs lifetime, there wasn't a bunch of easy high speed cruising going on!

Yes their are some easy miles but when I owend Polaris's they where easier because a Polaris 800 has 28% less power

It more and more sounds like just that kid that was on here sometime back that never had rode an ATV and didn't even own one. He finally got flushed out when people from around where he purportedly lived said he never would show up for any rides. He did have some nice pictures of somebody elses ATV though! Big Grin

This wasn't meant to be a "mines better then yours" thread....I've owned both so I think I can speak pretty accuratly about them, I considered them both reliable quads, the Polaris seemed to take more up keep, but I agree with RB.....take care of them, and they will take care of you!

You can't put 10,000 miles on a quad that's unreliable, and you couldn't ride as often in the places that RB rides if the quad was unreliable. (I should run for office)

I spoke to CanAm's help desk today, may as well talked to my front door, no info, no eta, no explanation. All they would say was that the part is on back order. In my previous job, I dealt A LOT with back ordered parts, and I could always give my customers an ETA, unless we had a bad design and were investigating to improve it, I can only hope that is the reason I do not have a running quad!

Thread locked.
