Question ...

The computer told me that I need maintenance on my machine soon. I have almost 1600 miles on it what should I be checking - help me out guys.

Oh and just so you know the shifting in between the gears has gotten better now since I've put another 200+ miles on it! Also the creeping has stopped when it's nice and warm too!
Have a great night! I'll try to post some pictures from the last two rides that I've gone on tomorrow! MG

You should take it to your dealer or do it yourself and

Change the Oil and Filter
Check or Change the Front and Rear Diff Fluids
Change the Air filter
Check or change the spark plugs
Check or change the Anti Freeze
Check the Belt for Wear
Tighten all bolts....I mean all of them
Grease the axles for sure

Hope this helps

Also when you get to certin hours the message comes on, look in your ownwers manuel, certin hours are suppose to have differnt services--like 10 hours-then 50 hours-then 100 hours etc.

I changed my oil and filter...and checked diff fluids ...and tightened all bolts at 10 hours..

Every 50 hours...I do a full change and check,, which covers what I outlined above....

If you haven't recently....change all fluids! Especially the tranny fluid and differentials. You may want to check the valves too. As Max said...check your manual.

If you do the grease and fluids, you should be in pretty good shape.

If I'm not mistaken even though you do the service you will still have to take the unit in and have the tech to reset the computer.

I do grease my machine regularly - I have 11 spots on my machine that need to be greased and then usually after washing it down I use WD-40 to make sure if there is anything I missed etc. that it gets taken care of. I also check the oil, check the coolant, check the tire pressure and just generally look over my machine to make sure there is nothing that looks worn torn or leaking malfunctioning. The Maintenance needed came on this weekend while we were riding up in Danbury, WI - so I was trying to think of what I would need to get done before I go out riding again. I haven't ever checked the front/rear differential fluid - but yes I have a shop manual for my wheeler. So I guess I'll have to figure that one out on my own. A few weeks ago - I opened up the clutch area to make sure it was clean and that the cvt belt was in good working condition. It is working well and once the machine is running it stops the creeping thing that annoys me. It ran an ECM Communication Error this weekend but I was way out on the trails so I had to keep going but it fixed itself somehow and started running right again after eating some gas. I don't know exactly how that works?
Also how do you guys deal when you come across other riders that are your friends that are into tearing stuff up? Do you just end up not riding with them anymore? Oh and you guys know how I was worried about going riding with a new group. I held my own and I was pretty proud. So the weekend turned out okay. Let me know what you guys think? MuddinGrl

Oh and I think Lon wanted me to ask about a cross reference for oil - instead of using the expensive bombardier oil. I have some bombardier oil that the dealer sold me left over for this oil change; but then next spring when I change it before we go to south dakota - maybe I'll use a cross reference oil. Let me know! Oh and I do try to learn as much as I can as quickly as I can - but ATVer I do try to keep my mouth shut about what I do or don't know because a whole lot of the time I come off like I'm a bitch when I'm trying to tell a guy - dude that squeak is your U-Joints going out because when is the last time you greased the machine??? So sometimes it's easier to keep your mouth shut then to be the bitch... if you know what I mean - if it's not my machine it's not mine to take care of. Hope you guys are all doing well! Only 9 weeks till South Dakota in May - Just wish I wasn't driving out there on my own! Damn it!

Luckily, the people I ride with are very responsible adults. I'm like you, I would be very apprehensive riding with them. I believe people like that are whats destroying the sport and closing the land for ATV use. I also am usually apprehensive riding with a new group. I'm afraid they don't like my slow riding style. well they made it sound like I wasn't going to be able to keep up because they didn't think I was good at riding. I didn't have a problem keeping up at all - I had to keep waiting on the people behind me to catch up. So it wasn't at all what I thought it was going to be...

Everything is a learning experience for me...

Certainly not the case around here MG...let it rip...the more info we get the more it helps everyone. Especially dummies like me. I open my mouth too much at times, but I have fun. It's all good.

Sounds like you better change that diff oil. What about the tranny....that one always seems the worse on mine. I do it once a year.

I changed from the BRP oil to the Mobile 1 MXT, but it's not much cheaper. The Brp oil comes in liters, the Mobile 1 in quarts, so you have to buy an extra one. I'm just a Mobile 1 guy and that is what the Mobile 1 people recommended for the Outty. MXT. Due to the heat. I think any 4 cycle/MC oil should do fine. I would not use car oil, even if it is synthetic. And I would not use Amsoil due to fluctuations in viscosity.

I would rather be modest then someone who brags about my riding skills; I would rather people just see that I'm a good rider. I think the saying goes seeing is believing? Or something like that? Thanks for the compliment tho... I think being a good rider is pretty important, since it's my favorite thing to do and all! Angel Big Grin Wink

Good Deal MG... I would much rather be a good rider than a mechanic... the better rider has less need for maintenance...

Last year we rode in Montana and the guys up there with Bombs, use the synthetic Rotella T in theirs. So, I switched and have been using. It is much cheaper than Bomb oil... From what I read, the crankcase oil is the least to worry about not going with the OEM oil. I guess time will tell. Those Bombs up there have over 7,000 miles on them with no problems...

Muddingrl, are you headed for the Black Hills? We were there all last summer. There are some good trails there now, but the forest service is looking at closeing some areas.

I've just emailed a dealer in my area Brewster's Motorsports in Maple Plain, MN to see if they would be interested in helping me out with some of the things that I'm not sure about doing on my own. We'll have to see what happens with this and I gave them a list of the things that I wanted checked out so that they could take care of those things and check them out before I go to South Dakota in May - I don't want to be the person with a broken wheeler who ends up sitting in the hotel because I don't know how to fix my wheeler etc. So we'll see what kind of a response that I get from them! Sorry that I've be offline for a while work is kicking my azz! With school right there behind smacking me in the tush too! banghead Hope you are all doing well - my wheeler is sitting idle right now with the big spring thaw going on in Minnesota! The trails are mostly all closed! Frown which leaves me missing looking forward to going wheeling on the weekends!
